Hon’ble LG inaugurates exhibition titled “BAPU through the eyes of Artists”at Lalit Kala Akademi.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of 150thBirth Anniversary. He stated that the life of Bapuji is an inspiration for all of us and urged all to resolve to follow his principles in both letter and spirit.

Hon’ble LG also paid his tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. He stated that Shastri ji was a great soul and a splendid role model for all who aspire to make India a great country.

On the occasion of 150thBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi all the local bodies, NDMC, DDA and Delhi Government organized various activities for “Swachhata Shramdaan for Plastic Waste Collection” as mass movement in consonance with vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister.

On this occasion various activities including ‘Shramdaan’, Fit Plogging Run, Swachhata Pledge etc. were also organized by MCDs with encouraging citizen participation. During the first phase of “Swachhata Abhiyan” (11thSeptember to 01stOctober, 2019) about 500 MT of plastic waste has been collected and over 4 lakh students and citizens pledged to stop use of ‘single use plastic’.

An MoU was signed by DDA and MCDs with CSIR, in the presence of Hon’ble LG for setting up Plants to convert ‘waste plastic’ to diesel & other useful products. This will involve setting up of pre-treatment unit for 2-5 TPD capacity at 03 different locations for converting ‘waste plastic’ to diesel, tiles roads, etc. in each of the MCDs. Hon’ble LG urged for segregation of biodegradable waste & solid plastic waste for better waste management in the capital.

Hon’ble LG also inaugurated “Fit India Programme” at DDA Sports Complex, Sector – 14, Rohini. On this occasion, Hon’ble LG also released Swachh campus & Jal Shakti Campus Manuals. The handbooks are useful tools for all institutions to keep their campuses clean and conserve water.

DDA also organized a series of campaigns and cleanliness drives for Plastic Free DDA parks, commercial complexes and other premises on the occasion of 150thBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Thereafter, Hon’ble Lt. Governor flagged off cleaning program of Yamuna Bank below Geeta Colony Flyover organized by Delhi Police in association with United Way NGO. Around 400 participants (students from Delhi University, school students, volunteers and police personnel) participated in the programme and removed plastic/garbage from Yamuna Bank below Geeta Colony Flyover to create awareness against use of Single Use Plastic.

Hon’ble LG also inaugurated exhibition with famous Gandhian sculptor, Sh. Ram Vanji Sutar titled“BAPU through the eyes of Artists”at Lalit Kala Akademi. It is an incredible display of works life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi by various artists, a must visit for one and all.
