Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal, chaired a review meeting to discuss thestatus of measures taken to combat Vector Borne Diseases (Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria) and Seasonal Influenza (H1N1) in Delhiat Raj Niwas. The meeting was attended by Sh. Satyendar Jain, Hon’ble Minister (Health), GNCTD; Chairman, NDMC, Secretary (Health), GNCTD, all three municipal commissioners, ADGHS (Health & Family Welfare), GNCTD, Managing Director (DTC), representatives from Railway, Urban Development, PWD, Delhi Police, DMRC, etc. The meeting started with a review of the ‘action taken points’of the previous meeting held at Raj Niwas on 21stMay, 2018. A detailed presentation was made in this regard. Hon’ble Lt. Governor was apprised about the comparative data of vector borne diseases from 1stJanuary till date for the year 2017 and 2018, which is as under:

It was informed to Lt. Governor that letters along with an advisory including Dos & Don’ts has been prepared and sent to various Govt./Pvt offices, buildings, institutions for prevention and control ofvector borne diseases.
After detailed discussions and deliberation Lt. Governor directed the following:
- Intensification of vector-control measures by field staff of local bodies (Domestic Breeding Checkers), and also distribution of IEC material by the local bodies through DBCs for public awareness at the time of their visit to the households. Regular house-to-house visits for checking and eliminating all possible breeding sites. Regular monitoring of DBCs by higher officials.
- Motivating RWAs and general public to participate in prevention of breeding of mosquitoes. Community leaders and field level agencies to also be involved in generating awareness in the community.
- Intensification of vector control activities and community awareness activities in identified high risk wards and underprivileged areas, unauthorized colonies, JJ clusters, construction sites etc.
- Intensify the campaign for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for informing and educating the people on need of prevention of Mosquito breeding and measures required to be taken for prevention and control of Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria by various means. Messages should be conveyed through vernacular languages.
- Regular review meetings at the level of District Magistrates with all stakeholders to review the situation in their respective districts.
- All offices/institutes should designate a nodal officer responsible to carry out vector borne control related activities. His name and contact details must be detailed at some prominent sites in the offices/institutes.
- School students should be actively involved in awareness programs for containment of vector borne diseases.
- Continuous communication and coordination with neighbouring states to discuss preparedness to tackle vector borne diseases.
- All the sentinel surveillance hospitals should be well prepared in terms of logistics. Ensure availability of sufficient stock of test kits, medicines for treatment of Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria.
