Lt. Governor Delhi, Sh. Anil Baijal chairs a meeting to review progress on measures for traffic decongestion of 11 corridors.
Agencies concerned to take remedial measures like road widening, new slip roads, shifting of bus stops, new FOBs/ramps wherever needed.
For preventing re-encroachment on pedestrian streets/walkways, agencies must explore permanent solutions like installation of street furniture/benches : LG

Sh. Anil Baijal, Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting to review progress of traffic decongestion measures on the 11 pilot corridors namely Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More), Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover), Savitri Flyover (Chirag Delhi Crossing to Savitri Flyover), Dhaula Kuan (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point), Sardar Patel Marg, Mehrauli Badarpur Road (Lado Sarai Red light to Pul Prahladpur Underpass), New Rohtak Road(Idgah Crossing to Kamal T-Point), Patel Road (R/A Pusa to Moti Nagar Chowk), Outer Ring Road (Hanuman Setu to Chandgi Ram Akhara), Shahid Jagat Naryan Marg (Netaji Subhash Place to Madhuban Chowk) and Vikas Marg (ITO Chungi to Karkari More)

The meeting was attended by Pr. Secretary (PWD), Commissioner (SDMC), Commissioner, EDMC, Commissioner, North DMC, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Chief Engineer, PWD and officers concerned.

The meeting started with a review of the ‘ action taken points’ of the previous meeting held at Raj Niwas on 23rdMarch, 2018. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) made a detailed presentation about the progress so far.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor was informed that for decongestion and smooth traffic movement on these corridors, Traffic Police, PWD, UTTIPEC, local bodies and other agencies concerned are focusing on specific works identified to ease specific choke points such as road geometric improvement, construction of FOBs, development of parking facilities, shifting/providing Bus Stands/ Terminal, divider construction on road, construction of iron grills on central verges, widening of road, shifting of boundary wall, removal/shifting of garbage store, re-structuring/designing of intersection, increase in the height of footpath/central verge, underpass for pedestrian and two wheelers, realignment of road/pavements, removal of encroachment by hawkers/Rehri Patri/Jhuggi/shop extensions, etc.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor was further informed that road geometric improvement works at Aurobindo Chowk have been completed by NDMC. Similarly, works of slip road near Adhchini ‘T’ point and Andheria More have also been completed by PWD. About Badarpur Mehrauli Road, it was informed that bus stops have been shifted from both carriageways at Pul Prahladpur Chowk to proposed locations. Jersey barriers too have been placed at few locations.

Regarding Rohtak Road, it was informed that regular joint drives are undertaken for removal of encroachments. DTC has issued NOC for shifting of bus stop in front of Sarai Rohila Railway Station. Signages have been fixed at few locations and pruning of trees too has been completed. As regards Patel Road, it was informed that joint drives of MCD & Traffic Police are regularly undertaken and most of the encroachments have been removed. Garbage / Malba is being removed by the civic agencies. It was further informed that on this corridor, the work of micro-surfacing, repainting of lane marking/zebra crossing and repairs of footpath, kerb stone, grills etc. shall be completed shortly, whereas the work of repair & fixing of signage has already been completed. On Vikas Marg too, joint drives are regularly undertaken for removal of encroachment and unauthorized parking. PWD has provided road signages and markings on Vikas Marg.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor expressed his concerns about the huge increase in traffic movement projected after the completion of Rani Jhansi Grade Separator from Idgah to Tis Hazari Courts at Rani Jhansi Marg. Lt. Governor directed agencies concerned to prepare a comprehensive decongestion plan in this regard.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor stressed that to prevent re-encroachment on pedestrian streets/walkways; agencies must explore permanent solutions like installation of street furniture/benches. Lt. Governor directed all the agencies to strictly take enforcement measures against all kinds of encroachments.

Finally, Hon’ble Lt. Governor observed that while making the comprehensive decongestion plans; traffic police, engineers and other agencies concerned should be on the same page so that the works can be accomplished in a time bound manner.
