Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal, chaired a meeting to discuss the Vector Borne Diseases (Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria) and Seasonal Influenza (H1NI1) in Delhi at Raj Niwas. The meeting was attended by Sh. Satyendar Jain, Hon’ble Minister (Health), GNCTD; Chief Secretary, Delhi; Principal Secretary (Health), GNCTD, Chairman, NDMC, Commissioner, North MCD; Commissioner, EDMC, ADGHS (Health & Family Welfare), GNCTD, CEO (DUSIB) and the other concerned officers.

A detailed presentation was made on the past experience and challenges. After that, status of present preparedness and a roadmap for coming months was discussed.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed all agencies to take effective steps for prevention of vector-borne diseases. Lt. Governor further stated that all the local bodies and other stakeholders should ensure that there is zero tolerance for mosquito breeding.

Lt. Governor mentioned that community awareness, participation and involvement shall be the key strategy He emphasized on educating the community and involvement of public at large for the containment of the dengue, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases. It was decided that public awareness will be carried out on a large scale through extensive Information, Education, Communication (IEC) activities this year also. Community members must be trained for monitoring of breeding sites at the household level.

Lt. Governor observed that school children are our best ambassadors for undertaking breeding control activities and awareness generation among their families and friends. Hon’ble Health Minister stressed that the campaign in schools must be started before summer vacations so that the period of vacation can be used.

Lt. Governor directed the health department and other agencies to be well prepared in terms of logistics for dengue patients. It should be ensured that at all time, throughout the year, there should be sufficient stock of test kits, medicines of treatment of Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria. It was stressed that special efforts must be made to ensure that JJ clusters and vulnerable areas are given more emphasis.

Finally, all stakeholders were directed to immediately activate their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for prevention of dengue and chikungunya cases in Delhi. It was conveyed that role of every stakeholder must be clear so that there is effective implementation for control of mosquito breeding.
