I am pleased to learn that the Department of Industries, Government of NCT of Delhi is conferring State Awards for the year 2018 and 2019 to acknowledge the exceptional craftsmanship of the artisans of Delhi and is also bringing out a brochure on this occasion showcasing the extraordinary work and skills of the Award winners.

Handicraft artisans are living legacies of India’s heritage and tradition, besides being micro entrepreneurs at the grass roots level. The artisans Award Ceremony is a befitting tribute to their extraordinary contribution in preserving the traditional art forms while continuously striving to innovate and align with the modern day art forms and creativity.

Historically, artisans have been instrumental in generating employment for large number of people at the local level and have thus significantly contributed to the local economy.  With patronage for hand-made products gaining popularity, the artisans have immense growth potential in the global economy.
