  • Lt. Governor, TS Sandhu, hoisted the National Flag at Lok Niwas on the 80th Independence Day; invokes PM’s vision of “Shakti Ki Saptadhara” enunciated at Red Fort today and appeals for Delhi residents to lead the nation’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat@2047.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, today hoisted the National Flag at Lok Niwas on the occasion of the Nation’s 80th Independence Day, in the presence of freedom fighters and their families, RWA representatives, youth icons, students, and common residents of the city. A ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute.

Paying homage to the freedom fighters, whose courage and sacrifice secured the nation’s independence, Sardar Sandhu also remembered the far-sighted nation-builders who laid the foundation of modern India. Referring to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address earlier in the day from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the LG recalled that the Prime Minister had unveiled his vision of “Shakti Ki Saptdhara” - seven key streams of strength, spanning manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti, Raksha Shakti, the green and blue economy, and India’s soft power, which he said would together power the country’s growth story in the years ahead. Sardar Sandhu said that all these streams were extremely relevant to Delhi and appealed to the residents of the Capital to lead the nation in its goal of achieving Viksit Bharat by the year 2047, based on the above-mentioned seven streams of growth.

The LG said the goal before the Capital is to build a Viksit Dilli - one that becomes a national model of excellence, safety, and civic pride. Reflecting on his own association with the city, Sardar Sandhu said that for him, service to Delhi is not merely an administrative duty but a sacred responsibility, having known and worked in the city for the past 50 years, which he described as his karmbhoomi. He said that every district, street, and neighbourhood of Delhi tells its own story, and that the Capital holds immense potential, which it is the collective responsibility of the administration to convert into convenience, dignity, and well-being for every citizen.

The LG further said that Delhi’s approach to public governance must be rooted in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s resolve of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas. He underlined the need for seamless coordination between the Union Government, the Delhi Government, municipal bodies, neighbouring states, and citizens, so that complex challenges can be converted into enduring opportunities. Among the key priorities before the Capital, the LG listed the cleaning of the Yamuna, tackling air pollution, ensuring housing for all, affordable healthcare, safety and security, particularly of women and children, traffic management, and the rejuvenation of Delhi’s heritage.

Addressing the city’s youth, Sardar Sandhu said they remain the ultimate drivers of Delhi’s future, and that their energy, creative ideas, and civic sense are the real strength of a modern Delhi. He called upon citizens to keep their neighbourhoods clean, protect public spaces, and follow their Fundamental Duties, noting that while the government can build beautiful public spaces, only citizens can sustain them. He urged the youth, influencers, RWAs, traders, and citizens at large to come forward with a positive spirit towards this end, adding that a city which truly cares for its weaker sections is the mark of a genuinely civilised and forward-thinking society.

Concluding his address, the LG called upon everyone to resolve to make Delhi a premier capital of the world, one that reflects a sensitive blend of heritage and modernity in its service delivery, and where every citizen feels safe, valued, and empowered.
