  • Will work to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Dilli and Viksit Bharat, in tandem with the Government of India, Government of NCT of Delhi, the neighboring states and the people of Delhi 

     

  • Will work together with all stakeholders to address all problems that the city faces. 

 

Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu took over as the 23rd Lt. Governor of Delhi at Lok Niwas today. The Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Hon’ble Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office to him, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Smt. Rekha Gupta.

 

The occasion was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs, Shri S. Jaishankar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, MPs from Delhi, Punjab and other States, from across the political spectrum and Delhi MLAs belonging to the ruling and the opposition parties.  Also present were Hon’ble Judges of the Delhi High Court, religious leaders representing different faiths, distinguished citizens, his former colleagues, and hundreds of his friends and admirers from Punjab, Delhi, other parts of the country and even abroad.

 

The Diplomatic Corps was present at the ceremony in large numbers. Those present included the US Ambassador to India HE Mr Sergio Gor, the High Commissioner of Australia to India, HE Mr Philip Green, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, HE Mr M. Riaz Hamidullah and several other enjoys from the neighbourhood and afar.

 

Speaking to the Media after being sworn in, the Lt. Governor said that he would work to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Dilli and Viksit Bharat, in tandem with the Government of India, Delhi Government, neighboring State Governments and the people of Delhi.  He underlined that his efforts will be aimed at solving all problems facing Delhi, with support and cooperation from all stakeholders.

 

He thanked Hon'ble President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs, Shri Amit Shah for entrusting him with this responsibility.

 

Shri Sandhu later went to Rajghat, to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and visited the historic Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj and Prachin Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place to seek holy blessings.
