It is indeed a matter of privilege to be present on the solemn occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University’s 17th Convocation.

02. At the outset, I would like to congratulate the students passing out today.  This day, shall forever remain a red letter day for you all, etched in your professional and personal life ahead.  I also take the opportunity to congratulate and thank the parents and faculty present here.  Without you, this journey of scholarship for our students, would not have been possible.

Dear Students,

03.  As you leave the portals of your Alma Mater today, you carry upon your shoulders many responsibilities.  You carry the responsibility of your won, your family, the society and the national responsibility of achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

04.  The degrees and accolades that you receive today are a testament of your countless hours of hard work, dedication, determination and intellectual prowess. However, as you proceed in your life, these degrees should prove to be your guidelines in humility, dedication and selflessness.

Dear friends,

05.  Today, the University is going to confer 3,112 PG degrees, 21,222 UG degrees, 12 M.Phil. degrees and over 100 Ph.D. degrees. It is heartening to note that women constitute 40% of the M.Phil degree recipients and 68% of the students receiving Ph.D degrees. The sheer number of women acquiring higher degrees, especially Doctorates, is an indication of the changing educational landscape of the country. It becomes all the more remarkable in Delhi, which is possibly the only state in the country till now, to have a woman Chief Minister as well as a woman Leader of Opposition.

In addition to this, Gold medals and Memorial awards will be awarded to the meritorious students, for their academic excellence.

06.  GGSIP University, in a short span of 25+ years, has evolved as one of the, most credible and premier multi-disciplinary University in India and abroad. The University has emerged as a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and inclusivity. It has nurtured countless talents, empowered individuals with education, and thus contributed in the growth and development of our nation.

07.  I am happy to note as its Chancellor, that the University has achieved many distinctions and milestones. It has been awarded with A++ Grade in the 3rd cycle by NAAC for a period of 7 years, which is a testament to its focus on quality education. In addition, the University has been figuring among top 80 institutions in annual rankings as per latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

08.  Discipline wise, the School of Law has been ranked at 17, Architecture at 29, Management Studies at 65 and Engineering at 89 in the country.

09.  At this juncture, I would like to sound a word of caution and counsel.  While we may be satisfied with our current rankings, we should not become complacent.  At the same time, there is much that is needed to be done, as far as, international rankings are concerned.  I say this, because international rankings, have a lot of bearing on students from abroad, choosing you as their destination.

10.  The infrastructural and physical expansion of the University is again a matter of satisfaction.  It has two operational campuses - Main Campus at Dwarka and the East Delhi Campus at Surajmal Vihar.  The combined student strength of the University stands at 1,13,118+, it offers 191+ academic programmes in 50+ disciplines at UG, PG and Doctoral levels, in 18 Schools of Studies and 106 affiliated institutions, spanning across Delhi and NCR. In addition, there are 02 virtual Schools of Studies i.e. School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences and School of AYUSH

11.  The University is in the process of establishing its new North Campus at Narela, to serve this hitherto neglected area. I am sure, this new campus will provide educational opportunities to many more youth in their vicinity.

12.  The University has been continuously creating and augmenting its infrastructure and resources to fulfill its academic and social responsibility. It has adopted numerous sustainable initiatives to protect the environment such as adoption of Solar Panels, Rain Water harvesting, Composting, Waste Management, etc. It has established University Inclusion and Accessibility Cell and Equal Opportunity Cell to provide an inclusive campus for all. The Atal Incubation Centre at the University (AIC-GGSIPU) has evaluated 140+ startups and worked closely with 84+ startups under its various incubation programmes, which needs a special appreciation.

13.  The University realizes the importance of external linkages and collaborations, both domestic as well as international, to support its academic and research activities. There are about 100+ MOUs signed by the University with about 40+ International institutions such as: Yuri Gagarin State Technical University, Russia, St. Petersburg University of Economics Russia, Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management, Russia, International Vaccine Institute, South Korea, AGH University of Krakow, Poland, NPL, University of Ladakh, PHDCCI, IBM, Laghu Udyog Bharti, Software Technology Park of India, etc. to name a few.

14.  However, these linkages should not only be there to facilitate foreign tours but aim at meaningful and symbiotic academic relationship that are mutually beneficial. They should not just be showpieces on your brochures, but should, result in substantive academic exchange.

15.  A recent initiative of the University needs special mention.  The 1st SMART DELHI IDEATHON (SDI) 2025, conducted at Vigyan Bhawan on 4th February 2025, to motivate young and dynamic minds of Delhi’s students, was an innovative step forward. It aimed at encouraging the students to contribute by the means of suggesting, bold and innovative solutions to some of Delhi’s pressing challenges.  It included Air Pollution, Traffic Management, Waste Processing, Women’s Safety and Economic Development. We look forward to many such events.

16.  I must compliment and congratulate the Vice Chancellor and his team, as well as the students for their sheer determination, devotion, dedication and commitment.  It is this commitment that is reflected in the growth of GGSIPU.

Dear Students,

17.  You are at the threshold of a new chapter of your life. I want to remind you that the education you have received here is not just about academics; it is about values, ethics, and character. It is about becoming responsible citizens, who will make a positive impact on society. Education opens your mind, broadens your vision and inculcates compassion and empathy in you.

Dear friends, empathy is a virtue. It is said:

जब आप किसी को छोटा देखते हैं,

तो या तो आप उसे दूर से देखते हैं, या अपने गुरूर से देखते हैं।

So as you move on to occupy hefty packages and high positions in future, I urge you to be always empathetic and compassionate for those around you and commit yourself to the cause of the society and the nation. An education or a career that does not bring happiness to the people, particularly to the marginalized ones, is, to my mind, not a successful one:

होंगी तुम्हारे पास डिग्रियाँ जमाने भर की,

अगर छलकती आँखों को न पढ़ पाए तो अनपढ़ हो तुम।

18. Dear students, your professional success will not just be measured in terms of your academic excellence but also in terms of your commitment, hard work, honesty and faithfulness. Always keep ethics above your professional competencies. Ethics shape your character, and define the kind of human being you are. One of the greatest sons of Mother India, the great academician, lawyer and our first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had said and I quote,

"In attaining our ideals, our means should be as pure as the end".

19. Friends, your academic skills and professional achievements must also inculcate in you humility. Humility that teaches you to appreciate others, enables you to understand that there can be various equally valid approaches to meet the same objective as yours. Humility also inculcates in you the ability to assess yourself critically in the context of society and the country.

याद रखें:

सादगी और विनम्रता कोई तालीम नहीं जो किताबों से हासिल हो,

ये वो संस्कार हैं, जो किरदार में झलकता है।

20.  Before I conclude, I would like to express my gratitude to our faculty members, who have worked tirelessly to shape and mould our students. Your dedication, expertise, and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact on our students.

21.  To our parents and families, I thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement. Your presence here today is a testament to the love and pride you have for your children.

22.  And to our graduating students, I say, once again, congratulations! May your future be bright, may your path be guided by wisdom, and may your heart be filled with joy and fulfillment.

23.  Be visionaries who dare to dream, be innovators who challenge the status quo and go ahead and contribute to make a Viksit Bharat. All you need is to trust yourself, setting a goal in your mind and relentless determination to achieve it. There is nothing that can stop you in bringing about a change in the lives of millions.

I once again wish you bright future and success in your life.

Jai Hind ! Jai Bharat !
