The DDA–University Sports Cup, brings Delhi’s universities together, on a common platform, encouraging sporting excellence, physical fitness, and healthy competition, among our youth.
Sport, is an important part, of education. It builds discipline, determination, team spirit, sportsmanship and teamwork. It teaches young people, how to work together, handle, both victory and defeat, respect their opponents, and remain committed, to their goals.
As our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, observed, “Sports teaches us, not only, to become champions, but also to become, better competitors; to rise, to fall, and to rise, again.”
These lessons extend, beyond the playing field. They help, young people develop, resilience, work effectively, with others and approach challenges, with determination.
It is a privilege to be joined by hockey legend Shri Ashok Kumar Ji, Olympian Shri Deepak Punia Ji, and International Trap Shooter, Ms. Aashima Ahlawat Ji, whose dedication and triumphs, on the global stage will serve as an, extraordinary inspiration, for our youth.
The DDA–University Sports Cup, can strengthen, these qualities, while building friendships, across Delhi’s universities, and providing, talented athletes, with opportunities to improve, their performance.
As India works, towards Viksit Bharat 2047, developing our youth, must go beyond, academic achievement. Physical fitness, mental resilience, and the ability to work, as a team, are equally important. Universities have a key role, in building this culture, by encouraging students, to participate in sports, alongside their academic pursuits.
I commend the Delhi Development Authority, for supporting this initiative, and Delhi Techno logical University, particularly, its Vice Chancellors and Department of Physical Education, and Sports, for organising the tournament. Collaboration between, public institutions and universities, can create more opportunities, for young people, and help strengthen, Delhi’s sporting ecosystem.
To all the participating athletes, compete with determination, and uphold, the spirit of fair play.
Respect, your opponents, value, the guidance, of your coaches, and accept, the outcome of every contest, with dignity. Winning matters, but so does, the discipline, effort, and character, that sport develops.
I hope the DDA–University Sports Cup, becomes a regular feature, of Delhi’s sporting calendar, encouraging, wider participation, and helping, promising athletes, realise their potential.
I extend my best wishes, to all participating teams, and organisers.
Thank You.
Jai Hind.
THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, DELHI
