Distinguished guests, faculty members, participating university representatives and dear students,
The successful conclusion, of the first DDA–University Sports Cup, marks an important step, towards strengthening the sporting culture, in Delhi’s universities.
I congratulate, Delhi Technological University and the Delhi Development Authority, for bringing ten universities together, through this initiative, and organizing, a championship, that has combined competition, with mutual respect.
It is a pleasure to witness, the Kabaddi final today. Kabaddi is a sport, that beautifully reflects, courage, agility, teamwork, and quick decision-making. The enthusiasm and determination, displayed by the players, remind us that ,sport is not just about winning, but also about discipline, resilience, and collective effort.
Sport has a role that extends, well beyond the playing field. It teaches us, to accept victory, with humility, and defeat, with grace. As our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, has emphasised, sports, play an important role, in building character, confidence, and a spirit of determination.
For a young country like India, building a strong sporting culture, is particularly important. Our ambition to become, a developed nation by 2047, must be accompanied, by a healthy, confident and physically active, population.
Universities have an important role in this effort. They must provide students, with opportunities to excel academically, while also encouraging participation, in sports and other activities, that contribute to their overall development.
My congratulations, to all the winning teams, and medal recipients. I would also like to appreciate, every student, who participated, in this championship. Your commitment, preparation, and sporting spirit, deserve, recognition, irrespective of the final result.
I hope the DDA–University Sports Cup, becomes a regular feature, of Delhi’s university calendar, providing young athletes with a platform, to discover their potential, compete at higher levels, and represent Delhi and India, in the years ahead.
I wish all the participants, continued success, both on and off the field.
Thank You.
Jai Hind.
