Lt. Governor inaugurates East Campus of GGSIPU in the presence of CM, Education Minister, Speaker, area MP and area MLA

The Lt. Governor of Delhi, Shri V.K. Saxena today inaugurated the East Delhi Campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) at Surajmal Vihar.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Saxena said that the state-of-art Campus had been built at a cost of ₹387 Cr., of which ₹346 Cr. had been provided by GGSIPU itself in a self-financing mode and remaining ₹41 Cr. had been provided by the Delhi Government.  The project was envisaged and initiated in 2013 and the foundation stone of the project was laid in December, 2014 by the then Union Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani.

The Lt. Governor expressed his satisfaction over the project finally getting completed after a hiatus of more than 08 years and said that the new Campus with State-of-art infrastructure will offer futuristic courses like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Automation, Robotics and Schools of Design & Innovation among several of the courses.  He praised the model of self-sufficiency and self-financing undertaken by the GGSIPU and exhorted other Universities to follow the same.

After inaugurating the Campus in presence of the Chief Minister, Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Lt. Governor said that the coming up of the East Delhi Campus of GGSIPU is a commendable step forward in the direction of providing the best in Higher Education to the aspiring students at their doorstep and will help them in fulfilling their dreams.

Shri Saxena emphasized that the purpose of real education was to inculcate values in a student that enable them to stand up to and fight against the darkness present around them.  He advised the students to march on the path of truth and honesty and said that the path of truth was not easy and one was bound to face several hurdles and opposition.  If you raise your voice against corruption, people with vested interests will become your enemy, he said.

However, in performing the proverbial task of a lamp fighting the darkness around itself, the lamp had to stick to rectitude inculcated through education.

Lamenting the low rank of Indian Universities in International Rankings, the Lt. Governor said that all efforts should be made to raise the standard of University education in the country so as to ensure higher rankings.  He said it is his wish that the GGSIPU attains a prominent position in the list of World Ranking of Universities and attract students from overseas countries, rather than the other way around.

Besides the Chief Minister, others who graced the occasion were Delhi Education Minister Ms. Atishi Marlena, Speaker, Delhi Assembly, Shri Ram Niwas Goel, East Delhi MP, Shri Gautam Gambhir, area MLA, Shri O.P. Sharma and the VC, GGSIPU Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma.
