Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal today felicitated 29 Armed Forces personnel, serving and retired, hailing from NCT of Delhi in recognition of the Gallantry and Distinguished Service awards bestowed on them by Hon’ble President of India. Hon’ble LG also released Flag Day Brouchre of the Rajya Sainik Board.
Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sh. Arvind Kejriwal; Chief Secretary, Delhi; Pr. Secretary (Revenue), GNCTD; senior officers of Govt. of Delhi and officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force were also present on this occasion.
A total of 29 awardees were felicitated and honoured at Raj Niwas today, which included 09 Gallantry Awardees and 20 Distinguished Service Medalists.
On this occasion, Hon’ble LG stated that this occasion provides an opportunity to all of us to pay homage to the sacrifices made by the valiant personnel of the Indian Armed Forces for protecting the sovereignty and integrity of our nation.
Lt. Governor also launched the donation campaign and urged the citizens of NCT of Delhi to support the noble cause by donating generously to the Delhi State Armed Forces Flag Day. He emphasized that the funds are being utilized for the welfare and re-settlement of ex-servicemen including battle casualties as also for their families. Hon’ble LG also felicitated two schools that had made the highest contributions to the Delhi State Armed Forces Flag Day during 2018-19.
Since 1949, the Armed Forces Flag Day is observed every year throughout the country and is an occasion to honour martyrs and men in uniform who valiantly fight at the borders, safeguarding the Nation’s integrity. The opportunity is also utilised to express our solidarity with the Armed Forces as also recognizing our obligations to soldiers disabled in operations, their widows and dependents.
