Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal has written to the Hon’ble Chief Minister with reference to his letter where the Hon’ble CM has questioned the decision to hire retired personnel to fill up vacant posts in the hospitals.

The proposal for engagement of retired employees against existing vacancies was moved by the Health and Family Welfare Department in pursuance of directions of Hon’ble CM, in the meeting convened under his Chairmanship on 16.08.2017. The minutes of that meeting were also issued by CM office. Therefore, it is surprising that now the Hon’ble CM has raised questions regarding the filling up of vacant posts with retired personnel.

Lt. Governor further stated that the engagement of retired personnel is purely an interim measure to meet the shortages. Regular recruitment alone is a sustainable solution for provision of quality healthcare services to the residents of Delhi. The vacancies in the government hospitals have been pending for a long time and he had already got an action plan prepared to fill up vacancies not only in Health Department but also in the entire Delhi Government.

Further, the Health Department has informed that requisitions have already been sent to DSSSB & UPSC to fill up the vacancies. As far as vacancies of promotional posts are concerned, Department has been directed to hold all requisite Departmental Promotional Committee Meetings by the end of March, 2018.

Lastly, Lt. Governor stated that Chief Secretary and Pr. Secretary (H&FW) have again been instructed to personally monitor on a fortnightly basis the progress of filling up of the vacancies.
