Lt. Governor Delhi, Sh. Anil Baijal chairs a meeting to review progress on Traffic Decongestion of five pilot corridors.
06 new corridors namely Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, New Rohtak Road, Patel Road, Outer Ring Road, Shahid Jagat Narayan Marg and Vikas Marg identified by task force for decongestion of Traffic.
Traffic congestion on approach roads of New Delhi Railway Station and Old Delhi Railway Station also reviewed.
Encroachment-free corridors must not get re-encroached, local police/thana must assume responsibility : LG
MCDs should revisit their licensing norms and link it with parking space availability: LG

Sh. Anil Baijal, Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting to review progress of traffic decongestion measures on the five pilot corridors namely Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More), Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover), Savitri Flyover (Chirag Delhi Crossing to Savitri Flyover), and Dhaula Kuan, (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point) and Sardar Patel Marg.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Delhi, Pr. Commissioner (DDA), Chairman, New Delhi Municipal Council, Commissioner (SDMC), Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Special Secretary (UD), GNCTD and officers concerned.

The meeting started with a review of the ‘ action taken points’ of the previous meeting held at Raj Niwas on 15thFebruary, 2018. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) made a detailed presentation about the progress of the corridors.

Regarding Aurobindo Marg it was informed that the work of slip road towards Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg on Aurobindo Marg has been completed. It was further informed that the work at Andheria More is in progress as per the approved plans of PWD. The Tikona Park at Andheria More has been shortened to make way for free left turn on Mahipalpur - Mehrauli Road T-Point. Shifting of traffic signal to a suitable location is also under process and the work shall be completed by 31.03.2018. It was also informed that for creating additional parking spaces at Aurobindo Marg and near Adhchini ‘T’ Point, stack parkings at both the places shall be developed by SDMC.

Hon’ble LG was also apprised that site near Mandir Wali Gali (Gautam Nagar cut) has been identified for construction of FOB with Lift at Yusuf Sarai. PWD informed that the tender has been awarded and it will be completed by August 2018.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed the stakeholders to ensure that there should not be any re-encroachment, after removal of encroachment. He stressed that local police/thana should assume responsibility for the same. Hon’ble Lt. Governor further advised all three MCDs to revisit their licensing norms for commercial establishments so that they should be linked with availability of adequate parking space.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor was further apprised about the work progress at Mathura Road. SDMC has given a feasibility report for Stack Parking with the capacity to park 88 cars near Amir Khusro Park. Regarding FOB at Aali Village, it was informed that the FOB shall be constructed within three months.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed NDMC officials to ensure proper planning for all the junctions on Sardar Patel Marg and adjoining roads in coordination with NHAI for finding out long term solutions.

It was also informed to Lt. Governor that 06 new corridors namely Mehrauli Badarpur Road (Lado Sarai Red light to Pul Prahladpur Underpass), New Rohtak Road(Idgah Crossing to Kamal T-Point), Patel Road (R/A Pusa to Moti Nagar Chowk), Outer Ring Road (Hanuman Setu to Chandgi Ram Akhara), Sahid Jagat Naryan Marg (Netaji Subhash Place to Madhuban Chowk) and Vikas Marg (ITO Chungi to Karkari More) have been identified by the Task Force for decongestion of Traffic on which work to be started. Lt. Governor asked Delhi Traffic Police to identify the choke points/congestions points at these corridors and share these with the agencies concerned for necessary action.

Finally, Lt. Governor reviewed Traffic congestion on approach roads of New Delhi Railway Station and Old Delhi Railway Station and directed Delhi Traffic Police and UTTIPEC to conduct a survey/study on these stretches and find out a solution to make approach roads free for smooth traffic.
