Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired the 5th meeting of the ‘Task Force on Women Safety Issues’ at Raj Niwas. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Chairperson DCW, Principal Secretary (Home), GNCTD, Commissioner of Police, Pr. Secretary (PWD), GNCTD, Secretary, NDMC, Commissioner, North MCD, Secretary (Social Welfare and Women and Child Development), GNCTD, Commissioner (Excise), Secretary (LAW), Spl. Secretary (DSLSA) and Spl. Commissioner (Transport), GNCTD.
At the outset, action taken on issues identified in the 4th meeting of Task Force held on 13th November, 2017 on Women Safety was reviewed.
On the issue of increasing Patrolling by PCR vans to reach within the designated time in response to a distress call made to Delhi Police, it was informed by Jt. CP (Traffic) that the average time taken is 5 -10 minutes and efforts are underway to reduce it further. Currently 600 PCR Vans are already deployed and a comprehensive proposal for 541 PCR vans with creation of 7723 posts of these PVs is under consideration.
Regarding improvement of lighting in public places, North MCD informed that about 90 percent of the identified dark spots have been illuminated, South DMC informed that it has provided lights on approximately 17365 darks spots. Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed to further strengthen the system to identify the dark spots.
Regarding status of GPS installation in Public Transport, Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed take action against those vehicles i.e. Auto/Taxi in which GPS are not functioning in addition to cancellation of driver’s license. Hon’ble Lt. Governor also directed to create an ‘app’ to register complaints against Auto/Taxi driver who refuse to go by meter.
On the issue of establishment of Fast Track Courts it was informed that at present about 20 Fast Track Courts are already working.
Regarding use of acid in public toilets and other places Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed all Municipal Corporations and Government agencies to stop use of acid for cleaning by 31.01.2018.
Commissioner, Excise informed Lt. Governor that they have conducted several raids/joint inspections to curb serving of liquor to under-aged person and deterrent action i.e. cancellation of license will be taken against violators. Hon’ble Lt. Governor further directed to take stern action by taking joint drives of Excise and Police Department against sale of illegal liquor.
Finally, the Lt. Governor again emphasized that all stakeholders must have a focused and coordinated strategy to make Delhi a safe city for women. Stressing on the need for a change in mindset as well, he directed the departments to keep up their efforts for generating awareness and sensitization. The capital city cannot have an unsafe atmosphere for women and with these words, he urged all concerned to work towards the common cause of a Delhi that is safe for women.
