Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Sh. Anil Baijaltoday visited Rajghat area, and Humayun’s Tomb-Nizamuddin. Lt. Governor was accompanied by Pr. Secretary (UD/PWD), GNCTD; Commissioner, South DMC, Secretary (Tourism), GNCTD; CEO, Delhi Jal Board, Spl. Commissioner of Police (Law & Order); Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic); Engineer-in-Chief (PWD), GNCTD,and representative from Archaeological Survey of India.
The visit on Saturday started with inspection of Rajghat area, where Lt. Governor directed Pr. Secretary, PWD that all central verges around the area, parks etc. should be properly maintained in an effort to improve the overall aesthetic look of the area. Proper cleanliness and uniform signage should be the top focus. Officers of PWD, GNCTD were directed to ensure proper re-carpeting of the roads leading to Raj Ghat.
Thereafter, the Lt. Governor inspected the Humayun’s Tomb – Nizamuddin area and its surroundings.SDMC informed that two parking lots would be shortly developed in the peripheral areas of Nizamuddin Basti that would help resolve the problem of illegal parking and traffic congestion in the area.
Lt. Governor asked Commissioner, SDMC to make arrangements for parking of buses during the annual Urs at the parking site developed over Sunehri Nallah which is presently underutilised by DIMTS. This would help relieve the area of severe crowds besides also providing convenience to the Urs pilgrims. Lt. Governor also stated that the required inter-departmental co-ordination should commence immediately for creation of additional facilities such as shelters, toilets, cooking areas etc for convenience of pilgrims.
Finally, Hon’ble Lt. Governor stressed that to prevent encroachment and also to improve aesthetics around the Humayun’s Tomb and Nizamuddin Dargah, agencies/stakeholders must explore installation of street furniture/benches.
