Awareness-generation and public sensitization to be done on war footing : LG
Intensive IEC activities in the form of newspaper advertisements, pamphlets and hoardings must : LG

Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal, chaired a review meeting to discuss the status of measures taken to combat Vector Borne Diseases (Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria) and Seasonal Influenza (H1N1) in Delhi at Raj Niwas. The meeting was attended by Sh. Satyendar Jain, Hon’ble Minister (Health), GNCTD; Principal Secretary (Health), GNCTD, Chairman, NDMC, all three municipal commissioners, ADGHS (Health & Family Welfare), GNCTD, and the other concerned officers.

The meeting started with a review of the ‘ action taken points’ of the previous meeting held at Raj Niwas on 13thApril, 2018.

A detailed presentation was made in this regard.

At the outset, Hon’ble Lt. Governor noted that prevention and control of mosquito breeding is the key for effective check on vector-borne diseases and re-emphasized on the importance of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities as the main tool for combating vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue and chikungunya. He directed that crisp targeted messages particularly in vernacular languages must be disseminated. Hon’ble Lt. Governor also emphasized on the involvement of school students in awareness generation programme.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor further instructed the local bodies to regularly monitor the work done by the Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) and fix their accountability for their respective areas. He further noted that top priority must be assigned by the local bodies to the various hotspots as identified by Dte. of Health that are most vulnerable for mosquito-breeding.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor also directed the Health Department to ensure that stocks of all logistics including mosquito nets, medicines and diagnostic kits, etc. are available in sufficient quantity.

Hon’ble Health Minister, GNCTD desired that hoardings with complete information about prevention, control and management of vector borne diseases should be installed at all gated communities, group housing societies, hospitals, offices, construction sites and major locations etc for widespread awareness.

Finally, Hon’ble Lt. Governor urged all the agencies concerned to take up their activities on a war footing so that the menace of vector-borne diseases is tackled effectively.
