Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi, Sh. Anil Baijal today chaired a meeting regarding redevelopment of Sheesh Mahal District Park, Shalimar Bagh. This was the follow up meeting after the visit of Hon’ble LG on 16thAugust, 2019.
The meeting was attended by VC, DDA; Pr. Commissioner (Horticulture), DDA; DG (ASI); representative from INTACH, Delhi Chapter, representatives of the local community, Delhi Police and other stakeholders. A detailed presentation was made by DDA regarding plan for redevelopment of park.
At the outset, Hon’ble LG stated that there is a need for proper redevelopment plan and maintenance strategy of the entire park and monuments. In this regard he constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of Pr. Commissioner (Horticulture), with representatives from ASI, INTACH, PWD, Police and representatives from local community.
Hon’ble LG directed DDA for the harmonized greening of the whole area with landscaping, fruit-bearing native trees, development of water bodies along with renovation of heritage structures situated in the park. Overall access to the park needs to improved. Hon’ble LG stressed upon provision of basic amenities for the visitors in the park.
Hon’ble LG emphasized on the provision of boundary wall, sufficient parking space, children play area, gap plantation, development of additional entry points, solar lighting system to develop this park as a unique community resource for the residents.
For Security of the Seesh Mahal Bagh Hon’ble LG instructed VC, DDA to coordinate with DG rehabilitation for engaging ex-army men as security personnel.
Hon’ble LG also desired that local residents of the area should be invited to be part of the redevelopment project with DDA and other stakeholders to instill community ownership.
Lastly, he instructed all the stakeholders to complete the work of the redevelopment of park & monuments by December, 2020.
