On the directions of Hon’ble LG, DDA prepared plan for 1476 ha river front development on river Yamuna.

Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal chairs a meeting to review plan for including the remaining area for Restoration & Rejuvenation of Yamuna Floodplains.

Lt. Governor directs DDA to prepare comprehensive plan for rejuvenation of Yamuna riverbed and floodplains in a sustainable manner.

DDA to develop 1500 ha of riverfront on Yamuna in two years.

Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal chairs a meeting to review plan for Restoration & Rejuvenation of Yamuna Floodplains. The meeting was attended by VC, DDA; Pr. Commissioner (Horticulture), Prof. C.R. Babu from CEMDE (Centre for Environmental Management of Degraded Ecosystems) and other officers.

A detailed presentation was made by DDA. Hon’ble LG was informed that DDA has prepared plan to develop 1476 ha for restoration & rejuvenation of Yamuna Floodplains. DDA has divided this area for development in   10 packages. The area included in the projects are Old Railway Bridge to ITO Barrage (Western Bank) – Asita West; Geeta Colony Bridge to ITO Barrage (Western Bank); Railway Bridge to ITO Barrage (Eastern Bank) – Asita East; NH24 to DND Flyway (Western Bank); DND to Kalindi By-pass (Western Bank) – Khijrabad; NH-24 to DND Flyway (Eastern Bank); NH-24 to DND Flyway  (Eastern Bank) Part Area- II – Hindon Cut Wetland; Wazirabad Barrage to ISBT Bridge (Eastern Bank) around Garhi Mandu Village & Usmanpur Village; Wazirabad to Old Railway Bridge (Western Bank) and ITO Barrage to NH-24 (Eastern Bank).

At the outset, Hon’ble LG directed that work at site should be taken up in a comprehensive manner. He further directed DDA to delineate the timelines of the projects and prepare a bar chart to monitor progress of the work. He strictly directed the officials to adhere to the timelines and complete the project within two years.

Hon’ble LG further directed DDA to prepare details of area transferred to other agencies for temporary usage. These areas should be assessed and taken back by DDA wherever the required purpose has been fulfilled. The complete riverfront of Yamuna should be planned to carry out holistic development. He also stressed that DDA officials should coordinate with all stakeholders to make inclusive plan.

Lastly, Hon’ble LG advised VC, DDA to take help of experts for landscaping, greening and plantation of the area to restore wetlands and riverine ecosystem. Basic issues of civic amenities like public access to the river, waiting sheds, pathways, sitting benches and other public convenience should also be addressed in the plan.
