Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal today chaired a meeting of Delhi Police and reviewed strategies for Prevention and Detection of crimes. The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Police, Delhi; Spl. CPs and Jt. CPs of Delhi Police.
A detailed presentation was made in this regard. Delhi Police informed that their main focus areas are street crime, crime by use of fire arms, women safety, safety of vulnerable groups (Senior Citizens), action against desperate criminals, checking of two wheelers, etc.
Delhi Police informed Lt. Governor that focus is being kept on beat policing, dynamic patrolling pattern, crackdown on criminals, monitoring of jail released criminals, dynamic system of picket checking, policing on lonely & vulnerable stretches, etc. for crime prevention. Delhi Police further informed that they have deployed special bike patrols, anti-snatching and firearms teams in the areas where firearms have been used for robbery and snatching cases have been noticed.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed Delhi Police to prepare a detailed action plan for crime prevention and improving the perception and accessibility of police. It was discussed that there is a need of specific tasking of district police for action against criminals carrying firearms and concerted action against criminal gangs, known and wanted criminals, reorient patrolling and improving visibility, picket checking and use of latest technology as force multiplier.
Stress should also be on fixing of accountability of beat staff and SHO, strengthening community policing initiatives for crime prevention, targetting sources of ammunition supply, use of enhanced punishment provisions Under Arms Act and IPC, access of Aadhar database for identification of Unidentified Dead Bodies (UIDB), etc.
Lt. Governor directed Delhi Police to deploy the police vans/patrolling motor cycles with sirens specially after dark so as to cover maximum area and also to instill a sense of security among people. It will also effectively create a deterrence against crime. Lt. Governor also asked Delhi Police to submit a detailed report regarding deployment of number of patrolling vehicles available vis-à-vis patrolling at any point of time.
Lt. Governor further emphasized upon visits of senior officers in field to keep an element of surprise in checks which shall lead to improvement in vigil.
