A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed today on 24th June 2019 at Raj Niwas in the presence of Hon’ble LG between the Registrar, IIIT-Delhi and Additional CP, Cyber & Technology, Delhi Police for setting up of Centre for Technology and Policing (CTP) at the Okhla Campus, IIIT, Delhi. Commissioner of Police, Delhi and Director IIIT-Delhi were also present on this occasion.

The Centre of Technology will assist Delhi Police in:

  • Identifying appropriate technology for crime investigations, maintenance of law and order, traffic management, administration, intelligence gathering and Citizen Services.
  • Provide research based inputs to provide the various ways in which the technologies can be adopted and accepted by the various stake holders.
  • Inducting various technological solutions for capacity building & skill Enhancement.
  • Framing policies and guidelines and SOPs for use of technology in policing.

Hon’ble LG congratulated Delhi Police and IIIT- Delhi and stated that in the age of technology, police should be thoroughly conversant and equipped with technology based tools for crime control. The use of engineering & technology, artificial intelligence and augmentation of existing communication systems would serve as force multipliers in boosting police efficiency and effectiveness.

Hon’ble LG was informed that Delhi Police is continually modernising its force to keep pace with advent of new technology in policing; actively exploring the possibilities of state-of-art technology and innovative technological solutions for handling crime, cyber crimes particularly financial crimes, criminals, law and order management, traffic management, intelligence gathering, combating terrorist activities and delivering citizen services, etc.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor further stated that to keep pace with technology development, it has become necessary to involve different stake holders from research organisations, Universities and private organisations operating in specialised fields like engineering, technology, law and public policy to assist Delhi police in discharging its duties more effectively and efficiently. 

IIIT Delhi is a prominent and rapidly growing institute in the field of academic excellence and research. This Institute has also earned a commendable reputation in India and abroad for being a centre of quality education and research. This collaboration will add capacity to both sides i.e. Delhi Police and IIIT-Delhi.
