Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi, Sh. Anil Baijal chaired a meeting today to review the core preventive strategies to effectively curb various street crimes. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Delhi; Addl. Chief Secretary (Home); Commissioner of Police, Delhi and other senior officers of Delhi Police. Spl. Commissioner (Crime) presented the trend of various types of street crimes and measures already put in place by Delhi Police to effectively curb them.
It was submitted that identification of criminals, Bad Characters, proclaimed offenders, history sheeters, criminals out of jail on parole/bail etc. is being done regularly. Special focus on dynamic system of picketing especially near crime prone locations is being kept to have an element of surprise for the offenders. It was also informed that Anti-Snatching teams have been constituted in each police station who remain in touch with Beat Staff, Prahari, Police Informers etc.
It was also informed that 64 vulnerable stretches (29 North Zone and 35 South Zone)have been identified by the police like Mathura Road – Ashram Chowk to Badarpur Flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, Signature Bridge to Bhopura Border, Rani Jhansi Road, ISBT Kashmeri Gate to Khalsa College, etc. and extra patrolling by PCR Vans is being done in these stretches under the supervision of ACP/PCR especially during 10 PM to 3 AM along with ERVs/QRTs of police stations.
As regards curbing of sale of illicit liquor, drugs and arms, Hon’ble LG desired that effective action should be taken in coordination with neighbouring states.
Hon’ ble LG directed that visibility of police on streets be enhanced and be further extended inside the residential colonies specially during nights and more and more Mobikes be pressed into service. Hon’ble LG also directed that senior police officers should themselves patrol the streets during day/night to monitor exercise effectively.
