Hon’ble LG directs round the clock deputation of Environmental Marshalls at landfill sites. Barbed wire boundary to be provided at sites.

Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting today at Raj Niwas to review the detailed Action Plan of agencies/stakeholders on measures to combat Air Pollution in Delhi.
The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Minister (Environment & Forest) Sh. Imran Hussain; Chief Secretary, Delhi; Commissioner of Police, Delhi; Pr. Secretary (Urban Development) GNCTD; Pr. Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), GNCTD; Commissioner (Transport), GNCTD; Chairman (New Delhi Municipal Council), Municipal Commissioners; Secretary (Environment & Forest), GNCTD; Chief Engineer (PWD), GNCTD; Jt. Commissioner (Traffic), Delhi Police ; Smt. Sunita Narain (Director General, Centre for Science and Environment); Smt. Anumita Roy Chowdhury (Executive Director General, Centre for Science and Environment); Sh. Tarunvir Singh Khehar (Standing Counsel in NGT for GNCTD).
Secretary (Environment), Commissioner (Transport) and Secretary (Power) made a detailed presentation regarding measures to combat Air Pollution in Delhi.
After detailed discussions with the officers, Hon’ble Lt. Governor
directed concerned agencies/stakeholders as under:-
- MCDs, NDMC & DCB presented detailed plan to increase municipal solid waste processing capacity to ensure complete disposal of existing waste generation thereby removing gap in processing about 6000 MT/day.
- Local bodies to also submit plan for processing of bio-degradable waste at decentralized locations. Municipal Bodies were also directed to make plan for management of fire and remediation of sanitary landfill sites at Ghazipur, Bhalswa and Okhla.
- Municipal Bodies and PWD were directed to increase C & D waste processing capacity from 2500 to 4500 TPD to take care of entire C & D waste generation of Delhi by establishing new plants. Pr. Secretary, UD was asked to explore the possibility of issuing order for mandatory use of products made out of C & D waste.
- Chief Secretary was asked to monitor the progress of procurement of Mechanical Road Sweepers, sprinklers etc. by MCDs as per their timelines on a weekly basis.
- MCD is to ensure local water arrangement at landfill sites to control fires. Hon’ble LG directed MCDs to ensure that last year episode of slipping of part of landfill site at Ghazipur should not be repeated.
- Hon’ble LG directed round the clock deputation of Environmental Marshalls at landfill sites. Barbed wire boundary to be provided at sites.
- Area parking plans to be worked out by Transport Department, GNCTD with MCDs.
- DMRC to ensure procurement of 600 e-rickshaws for last mile connectivity along with feeder buses.
- Approved fuel notification to be done by end of May, 2018.
- All works of paving/ greening must be completed in 08 months. Paving through concretization/ interlocking tiles must be done at all unpaved places for all road shoulders across Delhi. MCDs, NDMC, DCB, PWD and DMRC to make plan for greening of all kuchcha spaces around roads and below flyover/ over-bridges, metro pillar in Delhi. Greening to be strictly done with non-potable recycled water.
