Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal has written to the Hon’ble MLA, Sh. Saurabh Bhardwaj with reference to his letter where the Hon’ble MLA raised the issue of ongoing sealing of shops/ commercial properties in Delhi.

Lt. Governor stated that he has already held a number of meetings and met and heard various stakeholders including delegations representing the shopkeepers/traders, to understand all the facets of this critical issue. He mentioned that all possible solutions are being explored to overcome the crisis, keeping in view the judicial pronouncements on the subject and extant laws.

Lt. Governor further stated that this is a complex matter and in case the Hon’ble MLAs have some suggestions to offer, they can communicate these in writing, or better still, through the Hon’ble Minister (Urban Development), GNCTD as Urban Development is the department responsible for processing some of the possible solutions, like notification of mixed land use streets.

Lastly, Lt. Governor stated that this is a very serious matter and concerns the livelihood of lakhs of people and also planned development of Delhi. While Lt. Governor appreciated the concern of Hon’ble MLA and welcomed any constructive suggestions, he strongly advised against any attempt to trivialize the matter.
