Lt. Governor Delhi, Sh. Anil Baijal chairs a high level meeting with Chief Minister, Environment Minister and experts/officers to take emergent measures to tackle the severe Air Pollution situation in Delhi.
Stop entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except essential commodities) till further orders : LG
DMRC/DTC to increase frequency of trips.
Stop all civil construction activities in city till further orders : LG
All agencies to enforce decisions of the meeting in letter and spirit : LG
In view of severe air pollution situation in Delhi, Hon’ble Lt. Governor convened a high level meeting with all the stakeholder departments/agencies.
The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Delhi, Sh. Arvind Kejriwal; Hon’ble Minister (Environment & Forest) Sh. Imran Hussain; Chief Secretary, Delhi; Chairman (CPCB); Pr. Secretary (Home), GNCTD, Managing Director (DMRC); Pr. Secretary (Urban Development) GNCTD; Pr. Secretary (Health), GNCTD; Commissioner (Transport), GNCTD; Secretary (New Delhi Municipal Council); all three Municipal Commissioners; Joint Commissioner (Traffic), Delhi Police; Secretary (Environment & Forest), GNCTD; Engineer Member, DDA; Pr. Secretary (Education); Director (Education); CEO (DUSIB), Smt. Sunita Narain, EPCA Member-cum-Director General, (Centre for Science and Environment).
After detailed deliberations and discussions on the current situation of air pollution in Delhi, directions were issued for compliance of the following :
- Stop entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except essential commodities) till further orders. Traffic Police, Transport Department, GNCTD, Municipal Corporations to implement.
- Stop civil construction activities in city. To be implemented by Municipal Corporations, DPCC and all construction agencies till further orders.
- DTC and Transport Department to intensify public transport services.
- DMRC to increase frequency of service of Delhi Metro.
- Municipal Corporations and PWD to intensify mechanical road sweepings and sprinkling of water.
- Municipal Corporations, DDA and DMRC to enhance parking fees by four times.
- Municipal Corporations to stop the use of fire wood and coal in hotels and eateries.
- Municipal Corporations, DPCC and Industries Department to enforce ban on use of pet coke and furnace oil.
- DPCC, SDMs, Municipal Corporations and Industries Department to strictly enforce ban on use of electricity generator sets with exceptions as defined by DPCC for essential services.
- Traffic Police to intensify traffic management in all hot spots and increase deployment of traffic police to avoid congestion.
- Municipal Corporations, DDA and SDMs to strictly enforce prohibition on open burning.
- Municipal Corporations, DPCC and PWD to impose fine/penalties on all road construction agencies/contractors, where there are inadequate DUST control measures.
- Appeal to be issued for parents by Education Department for avoiding outdoor activities by the children.
- Transport Department to start preparing for odd-even scheme.
Lt. Governor directed that all agencies should strictly enforce these decisions in letter and spirit.
