  1. I am delighted to be a part of the 9th Convocation Ceremony at the Delhi Technological University. At the outset, I would like to congratulate the graduating students on achieving this proud academic milestone today. I would also like to congratulate the parents of the graduating students and faculty members of DTU who have been the pillars of support for these students throughout these years.
  2. It is indeed a matter of pride for all of us that the Delhi Technological University has been committed to quality education and has a legacy of producing remarkable engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs for the last 81 years.
  3. On this red letter graduation day, you must understand that all of you have the responsibility of keeping the flame of glory of this great institution, the National Capital and the Nation, alive through your work and deeds. For your path ahead, I would like to quote the great philosopher and spiritual Sanyasi Shri Aurobindo, and I quote “Education to be true must not be a machine made fabric, but a true building or living evocation of the powers of the mind and spirit of human being”. Unquote.
  4. Dear Friends, Ladies & Gentlemen,
As a Chancellor, I am delighted to note that, over the years, Delhi Technological University has grown to be an eminent institution in the domain of academia as well as research. Credible and universally accepted rankings bear out the achievements of the institution.
  5. DTU has been ranked as the 8th best institution by the India Today rankings; as the 35th best Engineering Institution in the country and the 38thbest University in India according to the NIRF rankings. It makes me proud to share with you that at the international level, DTU has been ranked in the 601-800 bracket in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
  6. Similarly, the Emerging Economy ranking (2022) has ranked DTU at the 191th place in the world. Moreover, DTU has secured the first place in the Times Engineering’s Top 170 Engineering Institutes in India in 2022 and it has been ranked 149th in the Asia University Rankings, 2022.
  7. In addition, the University has established an unparalleled placement record over the last many years. For the 2021-22 batch, 394 companies visited the campus and offered 2434 jobs to the students. The highest international package offered was Rs. 1.84 crore/annum and the highest domestic package offered at DTU was Rs. 64 lakhs.  Offers included 410 above 20 lakhs package and 882 offers in the range of Rs. 10 to 20 lakhs.
  8. I must also applaud the talented and brilliant faculty members of this University. I am happy to share that during last year, 18 faculty members of DTU were included in the Stanford’s University list of Top 2% Scientists in the World.
  9. Dear Students,
You should be proud of the fact that you all have been trained by such an eminent institution. A few years ago, when you all got admitted to this University, you all were like little saplings- inexperienced, vulnerable, ready to grow out and a little apprehensive. Today- when I see you and your proud parents sitting here in this hall, I see that the little saplings have grown out to become young and sturdy trees, robust and standing upright to face the challenges of tomorrow.
  10. In the growth of a little sapling, there are many factors like water and sunlight which ensure its growth to its full potential. Much like your teachers and parents who have continuously provided for your academic, emotional and intellectual needs.
  11. On this momentous occasion when you stand at one of the most important cross-roads of your life, I would urge you to always be thankful to the people who made you what you are! In addition, I want to encourage you to make sure that the tree of knowledge inside you keeps growing and spreading its branches throughout your life.
  12. Sometimes, when we achieve milestones in life, we tend to think that the learning phase is over. Please understand that the learning phase of a person’s life is never over. It is perpetual. You should keep the thirst for knowledge alive forever. Never let this thirst be quenched, since the ever changing world around you will consistently demand of you to remain a student and a scholar in pursuit of knowledge. Technologies that seem new and exciting today, may become outdated 10 years from now. Therefore, I want you to understand the importance of lifelong learning and self-driven learning. I want you to take inspiration from what noted philosopher and educationist, J. Krishnamurti had said, “There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.”
  13. Let me also tell you that it is very important to be honestly dedicated to your work because our work will last longer than our lives. It will continue to inspire others for generations to come. Remember that your work has the power to change the world! And to bring that change- you have to think different, do different and be different than the crowd.
  14. Believe in yourselves and stand firm on your decisions irrespective of the situations around you. We must understand that problems are inevitable! You may be in academia or research or industry or administration but you will always be surrounded by many problems.
  15. Young Friends,
  16. I would like to give you a mantra that bears out of my own experiences in life. Always treat problems as challenges and you will see avenues of growth and advancement opening up in front of you. It is the choices you make, and the ways in which you handle and solve these challenges - which will decide your fate and this country’s future.
  17. A country where the youth are educated may or may not be successful, but a country where the youth are optimistic in dealing with problems as challenges will always be successful.
  18. Dear Students, Ladies & Gentlemen,
We are in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution. Things like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Gene Editing, Robotics, Machine-to-Machine Communication and Internet of Things has blurred the traditional demarcations between the physical, digital and the biological spheres. Most of us all, it is you the students who have to ride this hitherto unimaginable wave of human progress. I exhort you all to seize this opportunity and use the metaverse to enrich our universe. I am sure that in you endeavour to do so, you will find long lasting solutions to the ever present human challenges of poverty, disease and peace.
  19. In the end, I want to stress on the most important thing- the power of being a good human being. You may be the most successful person in terms of your academic or career achievements, but if you are not a good human being- you have not achieved anything! Be proud of your achievements, but be careful of pride! Wherever you are, whatever you do, always be a humble person.
Let me conclude by congratulating you all once again. As you fly out of your nest at DTU, we pray that you will spread your wings and fly high. We are sure that you all will become great engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs and administrators in the future, but above all humble, kind and good human beings. As I often say,

डिग्रियाँ तो पढ़ाई के खर्च की रसीदें हैं,

ज्ञान वही है जो व्यवहार दर्शाता है

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you.

Jai Hind!
