  • Principal Secretary, DTTE, GNCTD, Dr. Dilraj Kaur Ji,

  • Vice Chancellor, DTU, Prof. Prateek Sharma Ji,

  • Distinguished faculty members, guests, parents and my dear students

A convocation, marks the culmination, of one phase of learning, and the beginning of another. For the graduating students, it is a moment, to celebrate, years of effort, the support, of their families, and the guidance, of their teachers. It is also an opportunity, to reflect on the responsibilities, that accompany the knowledge, and qualifications, you have earned.

I congratulate all the graduating students, and their parents, on this important milestone. I also commend the faculty, researchers, and staff, of Delhi Techno logical University, for their contribution to an institution, that has, over 85 years, developed a distinguished legacy, in engineering, research, and technology education.

DTU’s continued emphasis, on academic excellence, research, industry engagement, and emerging fields, reflects the changing demands, of the economy. Its academic programmes, in areas such as, artificial intelligence, data science, semiconductor design, and renewable energy, are particularly relevant, as India seeks to strengthen, its technology capabilities.

However, the real measure of a university, cannot just be confined, to rankings, placements, or the salaries, its graduates, command. These are important indicators, but the deeper measure, is what its students, go on to create, the problems, they help solve, and the contribution, they make to society.

Dear graduating students, as you leave this institution, I would like to share, three thoughts, with you.

First, learn to think independently, and remain curious. The world you are entering, is being transformed, by artificial intelligence, automation, advanced computing, and scientific breakthroughs. Many of the tech nolo gies, that will shape your careers, are still evolving. Your ability, to learn, adapt, and question, established assumptions, will be as important, as the technical knowledge, you have acquired.

Addressing the nation on Independence Day, this year, our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, outlined the vision of Sapta Dhara, identifying technology, and innovation, among the seven streams, of national development. He emphasized, that India must not merely become, a market for the world, but must emerge, as a hub of innovation. This is an important aspiration, for every young engineer, researcher, and entrepreneur. India needs people, who can develop, original ideas, build, indigenous capabilities and translate, scientific knowledge, into practical solutions.

The opportunity before you, is to be part, of this transformation. Do not limit yourselves, to using technologies, developed elsewhere. Develop the confidence, to design, experiment, create, and improve.

Second, understand that, success requires resilience, patience, and the willingness, to accept criticism. There will be moments, when your ideas, do not work, your plans, encounter setbacks, or your efforts, do not produce immediate results. Do not interpret every setback, as a failure of ability. Often, it is an opportunity, to reconsider your approach, identify, what needs improvement, and begin again, with greater understanding.

Remain open to criticism. Confidence is important, but confidence, without self-reflection, can become complacency. In science and engineering, progress depends, on testing ideas, examining evidence, and improving upon earlier work. The ability, to revise your thinking, in the light of new evidence, is a strength.

Third, let your values, grow alongside, your ambitions. Technical expertise, can make you capable, but integrity determines, how you use, that capability. As you enter professional life, you will face decisions, involving competing interests, commercial pressures, and difficult trade-offs. The choices you make, in such circumstances, will reveal more, about your character, than the qualifications, you hold.

Ambition is necessary, but it must be accompanied, by responsibility. Professional success, is most meaningful, when it is built on trust, earned through, ethical conduct, and used, to create value, for others. Treat people, with respect, give credit, where it is due, and remember, that leadership, is not simply, about directing others. It is also about, accepting responsibility, for decisions, and their consequences.

These principles, have a direct bearing, on India’s development. Our country, is advancing, in digital infrastructure, manufacturing, space technology, renewable energy, and scientific research.

Yet considerable challenges, remain, from improving urban infrastructure, and healthcare, to strengthening, agricultural productivity, conserving, natural resources and expanding, access to quality education. Each of these areas, offers opportunities, for engineers and researchers, to apply their knowledge, to problems, that affect millions of people.

India’s aspirations, for a developed nation, cannot be realized, by the government, or industry, working in isolation. They require universities, that produce new knowledge, businesses, that turn ideas, into useful products, researchers, who push the boundaries, of science, and professionals, who understand the needs, of the communities, they serve.

The connection between, academic research, and practical application, will be particularly important. An idea, becomes truly transformative, when it moves beyond, the laboratory and produces, a meaningful improvement, in people’s lives.

For Delhi, these questions, are especially relevant. As the national capital, the city faces complex challenges, involving mobility, energy, water, waste management, air quality, and urban planning. Addressing them, requires sound engineering, reliable data, techno logical innovation, and effective collaboration, between institutions.

I encourage DTU, and its graduates, to see these challenges, not merely, as problems to be managed, but as opportunities, to develop solutions, that can serve Delhi, and be adapted, by other cities across India.

I would also urge you, to recognise that technology, is not an end in itself. Scientific progress, must be accompanied, by attention to safety, sustainability, and the wider consequences, of techno logical choices.

The engineers and innovators, who make a lasting contribution will be those, who understand, both what technology, can achieve, and how, it should be used.

Your education, has equipped you with, a foundation. What you build upon it, will depend, on your choices. Set high standards for yourself, work consistently, towards them, and judge your success, not only by what, you acquire, but also by what you contribute.

To the parents, and families, present here, this occasion also recognizes, your sacrifices, encouragement, and faith in your children.

To the faculty and staff, it acknowledges the responsibility, you have undertaken, in preparing young people, for the demands, of a changing world. Your influence will continue, through the decisions, and contributions of the graduates, who leave this university today.

I congratulate, the graduating students, once again. May you pursue, your ambitions, with courage, meet challenges, with resilience, and exercise your knowledge, with wisdom and integrity.

Wherever your careers, take you, may your work, strengthen Bharat, and make a meaningful difference, to the world.

   Thank You.

       Jai Hind.
