Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji,
Hon’ble Minister (Education), GNCTD, Shri Ashish Sood Ji,
Secretary (DTTE), Delhi, Dr. Dilraj Kaur,
Vice Chancellor, IGDTUW, Prof. Ranjana Jha,
Registrar, IGDTUW, Prof. Brijesh Kumar,
Distinguished faculty members, guests, parents and dear students
Tomorrow, we celebrate Raksha Bandhan — a festival, that reminds us, of the bonds of affection, respect and responsibility, and of our, commitment towards women’s empowerment.
Today begins, an important new chapter, for all of you. You are joining an institution, created with a clear purpose — to provide women, with the education, skills and opportunities, to excel in technology, and emerge as professionals, innovators and leaders. As an institution, dedicated to empowering women, through technical education, Delhi Technical University for Women, represents, the growing strength of, Naari Shakti, in India’s development journey.
Over the years, this university, has steadily established itself, as a centre of academic excellence. Its growing presence, in national and international rankings, is a reflection of the hard work, of its faculty, students and administration. My compliments to the leadership, but I believe, that the true measure of a university, is not only, where it stands in a ranking, but what it enables, its students, to become. A university should give you, knowledge, curiosity, technical skills, judgement, confidence, humility, ambition, as well as a sense of responsibility, towards society.
The world that you are entering, is changing, at an extraordinary pace. Artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, advanced computing, and automation, are trans-forming the way, we work, communicate, and solve problems. On Independence Day this year, Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji gave the nation, the vision of “Sapta Dhara” — seven streams of strength, that can give India new momentum, and new heights. One of these seven streams, is Technology and Innovation. As the Prime Minister said, “We must become, a hub of innovation.” This university, with its focus on emerging technologies, and innovation, has an important role, to play in making that vision, a reality.
This university has recognised, these changes, by introducing programmes in areas, such as Cyber Security, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, linking it with Mathematics and Computing, as well as Machine Learning.
The upcoming Bajaj Engineering Skill Training Centre, will further strengthen the connection, between classroom learning, and the requirements of industry. These are important initiatives, because the jobs and opportunities, that many of you will pursue, may not even exist, in their present form, today.
But technology, is only, as powerful, as the people, who use it. The real advantage, that India possesses, is not simply, our growing digital infrastructure, or our technology capabilities; it is our young population, our scientific talent and our entrepreneurial energy. Your generation, will have the opportunity, to shape technologies, that can transform, healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, governance and almost every aspect, of everyday life. The responsibility, therefore, is not merely, to become users of technology, but to become, creators and innovators.
I am particularly encouraged, by the culture of innovation, that is already developing, at this university. With more than 45 patents, the work of the IGD TUW, and the success of students, in national and international competitions, demonstrate that ideas, emerging from this campus, can compete at the highest level.
The achievements of your seniors, demonstrate, what is possible. Students of this university, have excelled, at national and international hackathons, secured patents and gained opportunities, with some of the world’s leading, technology companies.
But I would encourage you, not to define success, only by a degree, a placement or a salary. Use your education, to develop the ability, to think independently, solve problems and create something meaningful. Do not be afraid, to experiment, and do not be discouraged, by failure. Innovation rarely comes, without it.
India is entering, an important phase, of technology and economic transformation. Our progress will depend, on the participation and leadership, of our young people, particularly, our young women.
You are not simply preparing, for the jobs of tomorrow. You are preparing, to shape the Bharat, of tomorrow.
I wish each one of you, a fulfilling journey, at this university, filled with learning, curiosity, friendships and achievement.
Thank you
JAI HIND
उपराज्यपाल, दिल्ली
