Convocations are significant milestones, in the life of every student. They mark the completion of one important journey, and the beginning of another. Today is, not only a celebration, of academic achievement, but also a moment of reflection, on the responsibilities, that come with education.

Over the past seventeen years, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi, has steadily evolved into a distinguished institution, in the fields of social sciences, humanities, and public engagement. From its beginning, with a single diploma programme in 2008, to now offering, a diverse range of academic programmes, across disciplines, the University has demonstrated, both academic growth and institutional commitment.

It is encouraging to note, that the University today figures, among the most preferred institutions for students, through the CUET process. This reflects the confidence, that young people place, in the institution’s academic environment, and its larger vision of education, rooted in inclusion, equity, and critical thinking.

I am also happy to note, that the University has made significant progress, in implementing the National Education Policy 2020, strengthening research output, supporting Indigenous Knowledge Systems, and expanding collaborations, with other leading institutions. Initiatives relating to rural entrepreneurship, student support systems, mental health, and research funding, reflect a broader understanding, that education must remain deeply connected, to both society, and the future.

As Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji has often emphasized, “Education is not merely, a tool for individual progress, but a foundation, for nation-building.” This observation assumes, even greater significance, at a time, when societies across the world, are being transformed by technology, AI, climate challenges, and rapidly changing economic realities.

India’s greatest strength today, lies in its youthful population. However, demographic advantage alone, is not enough. The real challenge, before institutions of higher education, is to ensure that education remains, aligned with innovation, employ ability, research excellence, and social responsibility. Degrees alone, are no longer sufficient, in a rapidly evolving, global environment.

Young people today must be prepared, to continuously learn, adapt, acquire new skills, and respond confidently, to the demands of a changing world.

This also requires our universities to move beyond, conventional approaches to education. Greater emphasis must be placed, on interdiscipline learning. Research, innovation, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and meaningful industry collaboration, should be focus area, for the universities. Institutions must prepare students, not only for employment, but also for leadership, problem-solving, and public service.

For the graduating students, present here today, this occasion is therefore, not merely the conclusion of your academic journey. It is the beginning, of a larger responsibility. The knowledge and values, you have acquired here, must ultimately contribute, to society, and to the nation, in meaningful ways.

As you step beyond the university campus, into professional and public life, you will encounter uncertainty, competition, and difficult choices. But you will also, encounter opportunities to innovate, create, and contribute. Do not hesitate, to take difficult decisions. Do not fear failure. Very often, growth and leadership emerge, from moments of challenge, and adversity.

I would also urge you, to remain deeply connected, to the society around you. Education acquires, its true meaning, when it uplifts, not only individual lives, but also the communities, and institutions around us. Whether you choose careers, in public policy, academia, law, media, entrepreneurship, social work, or the arts; carry with you, a strong sense of integrity, empathy, and public purpose.

Delhi itself, stands as a powerful reminder, of this shared responsibility. This city represents, both history , and aspiration. It is shaped by diversity, strength, and ambition. Its future will depend, significantly, on the contributions of young people, like you — individuals capable of combining, professional excellence with social awareness, and national commitment.

To all the graduating students, and to your parents, as well as teachers, who have supported you, throughout this journey, I extend my heartfelt congratulations, and best wishes for the future.

May you continue to learn, evolve, and contribute, to society, with wisdom, humility, compassion, and confidence.
