  • Members of Faculty,

  • Parents, and most of all, Dear Students

It is a special to be here, with this distinguished gathering, on at the 100th Annual Day of Shri Ram College of Commerce, a famous institution of Delhi.

A centenary is not merely, a marker of time. It is a reflection of continuity, resilience, and relevance. For a hundred years, SRCC, has not only sustained excellence, but has consistently adapted, to changing academic, economic, and society landscapes.

Founded in 1926 by Sir Shri Ram, the institution was envisioned, as a centre, that would prepare young minds, for leadership, in commerce and public life. That vision continues to resonate, even today, perhaps with even greater significance, in an increasingly interconnected, and complex global economy.

Over the decades, SRCC has established itself, as one of India’s premier institutions, in India. Its contribution lies, not only in academic excellence, but also in shaping individuals, who went on to contribute meaningfully, to society—as policymakers, entrepreneurs, scholars, and professionals.

The strength of any institution lies in its people. The faculty, with their scholarship, and dedication, have played a critical role, in maintaining academic standards. The students, with their ambition and energy, have ensured, that the institution remains dynamic, and forward-looking. The alumni network stands, as a testament to the college’s enduring impact across sectors.

What is particularly noteworthy, is SRCC’s ability to balance, academic excellence with holistic development. The emphasis on co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities, reflects an understanding, that education must extend beyond, the classroom. Leadership, teamwork, and creativity, are equally important, in preparing students for the challenges, of the real world.

I clearly recall last time.  I visited SRCC was 10 years back in 2016 for an Indo-US programme organised by your college Office of International Programmes (OIP) at the unite of its coordinator Prof. Mallettea Kumar.

The Annual Day is an important occasion, in this journey. It is a moment, to recognise achievement, to celebrate effort, and to acknowledge, excellence across diverse fields. I extend my warm congratulations, to all the award winners. Your accomplishments reflect, not only individual dedication, but also the supportive environment, that the institution provides.

At the same time, this occasion invites reflection, on the role of institutions, like SRCC, in the broader national context. India today stands, at a significant juncture. With a rapidly growing economy, expanding global engagement, and ongoing technology transformation, the demand for skilled, responsible, and innovative individuals, has never been greater.

Institutions of higher education, have a critical role to play, in this process. They must, not only impart knowledge, but also cultivate the ability, to think creatively, adapt to change, and act with integrity. The linkage between knowledge, and practice, becomes particularly important, in fields such as commerce, and economics, where theory must constantly engage, with evolving realities.

In recent years, we have seen new opportunities emerge, in areas such as, digital finance, entrepreneurship, data analytics, and global trade. At the same time, there are complex challenges, grappling the world today. Preparing students to navigate, this environment requires, a combination of academic depth, practical exposure, and ethical grounding.

SRCC, with its strong foundation, and forward-looking approach, is must contribute, to this evolving landscape. As it enters its second century, the institution has the opportunity, to further strengthen its role, as a bridge, between academia and practice, between innovation, and responsibility. As our PM has emphasized” Education is not just about acquiring information; it is about developing character, creativity and critical thinking.

To the students, present here today, I would like to say, that you are entering a world, of both opportunity, and responsibility. The education you receive here, equips you, not only with skills, but also with a perspective. How you apply that knowledge, will shape, not just your own future, but also, the society, you are a part of.

It is important to remain, open to learning, to engage with diverse ideas, and to approach challenges, with both confidence and humility. Success, in the long run, is not defined, solely by individual achievement, but also, by the impact, one creates.

As we celebrate, this centenary milestone, it is also important, to acknowledge the legacy, that has brought the institution, to this point. The vision of its founders, the contributions of generations, of faculty, and the achievements of, its alumni, have collectively shaped, what SRCC, represents today.

I would also like to commend, the leadership of the college, for continuing to build, on this legacy while adapting, to contemporary needs. Sustaining excellence, over a century requires, not only tradition, but also innovation.

I once again, congratulate the institution, the faculty, the students, and the alumni, on this remarkable milestone. I wish you, continued success, as you move forward, into the next century.

Thank you.

JAI HIND
