  • Hon’ble Chief Guest, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe ji,

  • Secretary, Higher Education, Shri Sanjeev Ahuja

  • Vice Chancellor, DPSRU, Prof. Ravichandiran V.

  • Distinguished faculty, proud parents, and above all, the graduating class of 2025, of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research University

It gives me immense pleasure to be present here today for the 8th Convocation Ceremony of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research University (DPSRU). I extend my warmest congratulations to all the graduating students, who have successfully completed, an important phase of their academic journey, through hard work, discipline, and perseverance.

02.    Established in 2015, DPSRU has, in a relatively short span, emerged as a distinguished centre of learning and research.  The journey of DPSRU, over the past decade, stands as a collective accomplishment of its dedicated faculty, motivated students and committed stakeholders. Through consistent efforts to uphold high standards in education, and research, the University has firmly positioned itself, as a leading institution, in the domain of pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare management, and allied health sciences, contributing, meaningfully to national priorities and societal well-being.

Dear Graduating Students,

03.    Today, is your red letter day. This convocation is not just a celebration of degrees earned; it is a celebration of dreams launched. You graduate at a time when India is not asking what will the future be, but who will build it - and the answer is you.

04.    On 11 December 2023, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, launched the “Viksit Bharat@2047: Voice of Youth” Ideas Portal, calling upon the youth of the nation, to actively participate in shaping India’s future. This vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, is not just a slogan. It is an invitation - especially to young minds like yours - to imagine boldly and act responsibly. When the Hon’ble Prime Minister, launched this portal, he made one thing clear: India’s future will be written not in boardrooms alone, but in classrooms, laboratories, start-ups, and research facilities, like yours.

05.    You are not merely recipients of degrees - you are torchbearers of India’s progressIndia today stands tall as a global leader, in the pharmaceutical sector. Our country ranks third globally in pharmaceutical production and thirteenth in terms of valueIndia also meets nearly 60% of the global vaccine demand, earning the trust of the world, as the “Pharmacy of the World.” At the same time, India is steadily emerging as the global epicentre for Traditional Medicine, medical devices, and integrative healthcare.

06.    With the recognition of traditional medicine by the World Health OrganizationIndia has a unique opportunity, to lead the world, with evidence-based, sustainable, and affordable healthcare solutions. In this national and global context, this University, occupies a place of exceptional importance. It is, among the few dedicated universities, focussing exclusively on Pharmaceuticals, Health management and Allied health sciences. DPSRU’s pioneering efforts in traditional medicine, including the launch of B. Pharma. (Ayurveda) and collaborations with the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College & Hospital, and Chaudhary Brahm Prakash College of Ayurveda, reflect its commitment to integrative and holistic healthcare.

07.    The University focuses on enriching its degrees, by augmenting academic inputs through various means.  It focusses on skill development, so as to enhance employability of its students, and trains its students to be ready to adapt and perform, within the industry and regulatory compliances.

08.    It has collaborations and partnerships with AIIMS - Delhi, Indian Pharmacopoeia (फार्माकोपिया) Commission - Ghaziabad, NDTL - Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs (FOPE), and other prestigious institutions.

09.    I have no doubts, that the University has, for quite some time, been excelling in terms of producing qualified graduates, for years now.  However, I would be shirking away from my responsibilities as the Chancellor of the University, if I were to satisfy myself with this achievement alone.  To my mind, DPSRU is not another degree providing institution.  It is equipped with, and should endeavour, to excel in the field of pharmaceutical research. Apart from producing qualified individuals in the field of pharmacy, the University must commit itself to basic, fundamental and applied research in Pharmacology (फार्माकोलोजी).

10.    A nation of 1.4 billion people, even as we move ahead to become 3rd largest economy in the world, we are yet held back by the scourge of poverty and disease.

Dear friends, Ladies & Gentlemen,

11.    The University is continuously striving to develop state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced research ecosystems.  I am informed that DPSRU, houses the Centre for Precision Medicine and Pharmacy (DCPMP) - a fully integrated, state-of-the-art facility, equipped with advanced technologies in genetics, genomics, laboratory automation, and bio-informatics. The University has also established a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, offering sustainable alternatives for sourcing crude drugs, at a time when many medicinal plant species, face the risk of extinction.

12.    With such infrastructure in place, I am sure that the University is equipped to undertake the research initiatives, that I mentioned earlier.  These initiatives, will play a critical role in, making India self-reliant in advanced biological and therapeutic products.

13.    I am happy to note that nine of the University’s faculty members, including the Vice Chancellor, have been recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists, as per the prestigious list released by Stanford University in 2025. This distinction reflects the depth of academic excellence, and research leadership, nurtured at DPSRU. As a corollary to this, I exhort the faculty and the management of the University, present here, to place themselves to the task of making DSPRU, a Centre of Excellence in the field of Pharma research.

14.    At this juncture, I will also like to, put in a word of caution. As you pursue excellence, in your careers and professional life, you are bound to - and I wish so, achieve success.  Many of you will break through centuries old glass ceilings.  You will have many admirers as well as detractors.  My advise to you will be, to not let success, achievements, and glory, as well as criticism guide you, in your conduct.  It has rightly been said:

प्रशंसा में छुपा झूठ और आलोचना में छुपा सच,

जिसने जान लिया, समझो उसने अच्छे और बुरे को पहचान लिया।

Dear Graduating Students,

15.    The education you have received here empowers you. It also puts upon you a responsibility towards yourself, your family, the society, the nation, as indeed, the globe. Wherever your journey takes you - research, industry, regulation, entrepreneurship, or public service, always carry forward the values of integrity, scientific excellence, and service to society.

Rememberyour contribution will shape, not only your own future, but also the health and well-being of millions. India does not need followers; India needs innovators, risk-takers, and ethical leaders.

16.    I urge you to think beyond jobs, think about solutions, think beyond success, and think about service. Let your careers be guided not only by ambition, but by purpose and positive approach. Remember, humility in thinking, and compassion in your conduct, should be your guiding lights. Most of all, I would like to underline, you should always and firmly remain grounded.

17.    I once again congratulate the students, the faculty, and the entire DPSRU fraternity. I wish you all success, as you move forward, and contribute meaningfully, to the realization of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Thank you.
Jai Hind.
