02.   Today is a moment of immense pride for all of us. It is with delight that I address the graduating students and their families on this special occasion of the 53rd Foundation Day and Convocation of the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS). This day is not just a celebration of your academic achievements, but also a recognition of the enduring legacy and growth of UCMS as an institution. Convocation is a reminder of the profound responsibility you now carry as future healthcare professionals.

Dear Graduates,

03.   Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and countless hours of learning. You have persevered through some of the most challenging times, including a global pandemic that tested healthcare systems around the world. Despite these challenges, you have emerged stronger and now stand on the brink of a noble journey, one that calls for service, compassion, and lifelong learning.

04.   Your time here at UCMS has prepared you to navigate the complexities of the medical field. You have had the privilege of learning from some of the finest educators in an institution renowned for its excellence in medical education and research. The knowledge and skills you've gained will guide you through the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare.

05.   From its humble beginnings, UCMS and its associated Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital have evolved into a 1500-bedded multi-specialty hospital.  They serve the healthcare needs of nearly 6-8 million people in East Delhi and neighbouring states. Spread over an area of 87 acres, the UCMS-GTB Hospital complex offers services to more than 5000-6000 patients daily in various outpatient departments with 250-300 admissions.

06.   As you are aware, diabetes is an emerging pandemic of the modern world, placing India among the most affected countries. UCMS-GTB Hospital is at the forefront of tackling this crisis through its dedicated Diabetic and Endocrinology & Metabolic (DEM) block. UCMS is having Superspeciality DM course in endocrinology, and hospital is running DNB fellowships in neurosurgery & Paediatric Haemato Oncolgy. All the departments are running special clinics and are providing specialised services including dialysis, advanced oncosurgery, minimal invasive surgery, vitreo-retinal surgery, adolescent & Geriatric care, pain relief and critical care in ICUs.

07.   UCMS-GTB Hospital is making continuous strides in enhancing healthcare delivery, particularly in the area of Maternal and Child Health. Annual delivery rate stands at 18,000-20,000 and specialised care is instrumental in improving critical health indices such as maternal mortality rate (MMR) & infant mortality rate (IMR).  In the field of in-house delivery of services under expert care, UCMS-GTB Hospital is working towards the vision of affordable, high-quality healthcare for every mother and child. This commitment ensures that both mothers and newborns receive top-tier medical attention, contributing to better health outcomes for generations to come.

08.   UCMS has been a pillar of excellence in medical education for over 50 years, and dear graduates now you are a part of this proud legacy. From its humble beginnings to becoming one of India’s top medical institutions, UCMS has consistently produced not only excellent doctors but also compassionate humanbeings who serve society selflessly. Today, as you cross this stage, you inherit the responsibility of carrying forward this legacy.
