Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal today reviewed preparedness of Delhi Police for General Elections – 2019.
Take steps to check movement of illicit cash and liquor effectively : LG
Focus on efficient control room management for timely redressal of complaints regarding violation of model code of conduct: LG to Delhi Police
Coordination with neighbouring states/districts to be ensured : LG
Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal chaired the law & order meeting today to review the “General Elections 2019 – Preparedness of Delhi Police including coordination with police of neighbouring states to check communal violence, terrorist activities, distribution of illicit liquor & other narcotics drugs, crimes in border areas, sale of illegal arms & weapons etc.” The meeting was attended by Addl. Chief Secretary (Home), GNCTD; Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Spl. CPs and Jt. CPs of Delhi Police, Commissioner (Excise), GNCTD and Spl. Commissioner (Transport), GNCTD.
At the outset, Delhi Police apprised Hon’ble Lt. Governor about the guidelines for pre poll preventive measures such as review and assessment of all licensed arms holders and deposition of arms, persons released on bail, persons having history of criminal offences, persons previously involved in rioting cases, ban on issue of new licenses w.e.f date of announcement of elections, list of persons involved in booth capturing, impersonation and intimidation of voters in past two elections. It was informed that special drives against history sheeters, proclaimed absconders, fugitive criminals and illicit liquor, etc. shall be undertaken.
Delhi Police also informed that with the announcement of the dates of the elections, it will intensify action against defacement of property, action against misuse of vehicles, action against misuse of loudspeakers and seizure of illicit cash/items meant for bribing voters/other electoral malpractices.
It was further informed that the training of District DCsP/Adl. DCsP/ACsP/SHOs is already going on, post which District DCsP will organize training in respective districts for inspectors upto constabulary ranks.
Hon’ble LG desired that the assessment of force requirement be meticulously done and MHA and other concerned agencies be suitably informed well in time.
Hon’ble LG directed Delhi Police to take stern steps to check movement of illicit cash and liquor. Hon’ble LG also desired that Delhi Police should focus on efficient control room management for effective and timely redressal of complaints regarding violation of model code of conduct.
Delhi Police also informed that the inaugural meeting regarding Inter-State Coordination has been held and issues such as joint checking at borders, tenant verification drive in border settlements/colonies, drive against liquor smuggling & against interstate gangs of criminals, action against illegal firearms, etc. were taken up. Hon’ble LG directed that coordination with neighbouring states/districts be ensured for free, fair and smooth election process.
Lastly, Lt. Governor directed that a meeting be taken at the level of Chief Secretary with Commissioner of Police, Delhi and other related agencies for ensuring that all the preventive measures are put in place well in advance in view of forthcoming General Elections – 2019.
