Lt. Governor, Sh. Anil Baijal chairs meeting to review Air Pollution and Waste Management.
Agencies to direct their field officers to visit Hotspot circumference-areas to come down heavily on burning of waste, polluting units, dust-generating activities etc.
Ensure greening of areas where waste has been lifted to control dust pollution : LG
To control Air Pollution, night patrolling need to be conducted by teams comprising representatives from MCDs, Revenue department, DPCC, etc.
Industrial Associations/Market Traders Associations, Citizen Groups are to be sensitized.
Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting today at Raj Niwas convened by Chairman, EPCA to review Air Pollution, waste managment and sealing of industries operating in non-conforming areas like Narela, Bawana, Mundka and adjoining areas.
The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Minister (Environment & Forest), Sh. Imran Hussain; Dr. Bhure Lal, Chairman, EPCA; Secretary (Environment), GNCTD; Commissioner (SDMC); Commissioner (NDMC); Managing Director (DSIIDC); CEO (DJB); Member Secretary (DPCC), GNCTD and other senior officers.
At the outset, Hon’ble Lt. Governor was informed about the status of action taken by Government of Delhi. It was informed that since, 24.10.2018, 10779 MT of Solid Waste/industrial wastes have been removed by North DMC & South DMC from Mundka and adjoining areas and 1014 bighas of area has been cleared.
Hon’ble LG directed PWD and MCDs to ensure greening of areas from where waste has been lifted to control dust pollution. Hon’ble LG also directed DJB to ensure drinking water supply at industrial areas.
Hon’ble LG was further apprised that 41,580 MT solid waste/industrial wastes has been collected from Narela and Bawana area. Also DPCC has issued 230 no. of show cause notices in Narela and Bawana area and imposed Rs. 1.825 crore of penalties and received an amount of Rs. 82.50 lakh. DSIIDC has inspected 3817 units in Narela and Bawana area and issued notices to 867 defaulters.
It was also informed that 21,960 non-permissible industries operating in residential and non-conforming areas have been closed in Step – I by municipal bodies. In Step – II, 30,000 similar units operating illegally in residential and non-conforming areas will be closed.
It was further informed that out of 1467 industries, 1297 industries have been converted into PNG and 170 industries have been closed for non-conversion to PNG. Environmental Marshalls have attended 15556 no. of incidents and settled 14310 incidents at site.
Hon’ble LG, Hon’ble Minister and Chairman, EPCA instructed agencies to activate their field officers to visit Hotspot areas to come down heavily on burning of waste, polluting units, dust-generating activities, etc.
Hon’ble LG also directed that night patrolling need to be conducted by team comprising representatives from MCDs, Revenue department, DPCC and findings are to be analyzed and for any fire incident, focussed action is to be taken.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor also advised that Industrial Associations/Market Traders Associations, Citizen Groups shall be sensitized by conducting meetings with them by all Municipal Bodies. Lastly, Lt. Governor directed that all departments/agencies to nominate nodal officers responsible for implementation of approved fuel notification & controlling of open burning incidences.
