Deploy more Environmental Marshals for night patrolling : LG

Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting today at Raj Niwas convened by Chairman, EPCA where he reviewed the problem of Air Pollution at Bawana, Narela and nearby areas and improper disposal of industrial rubber and plastic waste and it’s burning on large scale in these areas that was observed during site visit by Chairman, EPCA on 20 th October, 2018.
The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Minister (Environment & Forest), Sh. Imran Hussain; Dr. Bhure Lal, Chairman, EPCA; Secretary (Environment), GNCTD; Commissioner (North MCD); Member Secretary (DPCC), GNCTD; Deputy Commissioner (North); Deputy Commissioner (West); Chief Engineer (DSIIDC) and officials concerned.
A presentation was given by Member Secretary (DPCC) regarding Air Pollution issues and action taken in Bawana and Narela area. Photographs were shown indicating open burning along roadsides. It was informed that primary reasons for not collecting the waste is the lack of coordination between the Industrial Associations, DSIIDC, North DMC.
Member Secretary (DPCC) informed that DPCC has deputed Environment Marshals for Night patrolling at following Hotspots:- Bawana, Narela, Mundka, Nangloi, Punjabi Bagh, Dwarka, Anand Vihar, Bhalaswa SLF and Ghazipur SLF. Hon’ble LG directed more deployment of Environmental Marshals keeping in mind emergent Air Pollution condition.
It was further informed that closure directions have been issued to 113 industries which have not converted to PNG. Out of 113, 67 units are located in Bawana and Narela industrial areas. Further, 1368 show cause notices and 417 closure directions have been issued by DPCC against polluting units in Delhi.
Chairman, EPCA also presented photographs of violations in terms of open burning and dumping of rubber and plastic waste and dust pollution that was observed during the site visits at Nangloi, Dwarka, Tikri Kalan, Mundka, Peeragarhi, Kamruddin Nagar, Hiran Kudna, Ghewra, etc.
Hon’ble LG, Chairman, EPCA and Hon’ble Minister Environment directed concerned agencies for deterrent and exemplary action against violators. They also stressed on the night patrolling by Environmental Marshalls.
