Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal today reviewed the “Use of Technology in Policing”. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Delhi; Pr. Secretary (Home), GNCTD; Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Spl. CPs and Jt. CPs of Delhi Police; Commissioner (Transport),GNCTD.

Delhi Police made a detailed presentation on various technology projects of Delhi Police for Prevention, Detection & Investigation of Crimes such as e-Beat Book, Body Worn Cameras, Open Source Intelligence Solution (OSINT), Intelligence Management Traffic System (ITMS), Automatic Number Plate Reading Project (ANPR), Facial Recognition and Advanced Forensics, etc. Hon’ble LG directed Delhi Police to review the progress made on all the projects on quarterly basis.

Hon’ble LG was informed that Mobile Cyber Forensic Labs with trained staff and necessary infrastructure would be functional soon with different features like malware forensics, network forensics, cloud forensics, cryptocurrency analytics, cyber range.

Further, it was also informed that various applications of Delhi Police shall be brought on single platform of ‘One Touch APP’ by December, 2018. It was also informed that installations of 10,000 CCTV cameras are in advance stage under Safe City Project (Nirbhaya Fund).

Delhi Police also informed about multi functional role of the Facial Recognition technology which will help in many ways like tracing the missing children, remote suspect verification, security suspect identification and locating and tracking of fugitive. Hon’ble Lt. Governor was also informed about Advanced Forensics such as Malware Forensics, Cryptocurrency Analytics, Cloud Forensic and Advanced Mobile Forensics. It was also informed that 800 numbers of Body Worn Cameras has been procured and are being operationalized.

At the outset, Lt. Governor stressed that technology based policing should be the main cornerstone for police modernisation. Latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Facial recognition, Intelligent Traffic Management system are need of the hour to modernise policing.

Lt. Governor directed Delhi Police to improve its human resource capabilities to use technology more effectively and efficiently for welfare of public. He further desired that personnel at all levels need to be familiarised with the technological changes.

Lt. Governor emphasized on the need for regular audit of security systems as well as constant capacity-building so that the preparedness and response levels of Delhi Police are further improved.

Hon’ble LG also appreciated the steps taken by Delhi Police for setting up of Centre for Technology in collaboration with IIIT Delhi.
