Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal in law & order meeting today reviewed action taken/strategy to prevent property offences especially Motor Vehicle Theft. The meeting was attended by Addl. Chief Secretary (Home), GNCTD, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Spl. CPs and Jt. CPs of Delhi Police, Spl. Commissioner (Transport).

Delhi Police made a detailed presentation and informed about the present status and current trend in this regard.

Delhi Police apprised Hon’ble Lt. Governor about the major contributing factors of M.V. Theft being acute shortage of parking space, general practice of parking vehicle on roadside and unwillingness of the majority of motor vehicle owners to install Anti Auto Theft Equipment.

Strategies to minimize the cases of various property offences especially the Motor Vehicle Theft in close coordination with agencies of other states and departments were deliberated.

At the outset, Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed Delhi Police to focus on multi-pronged strategies including coordination with other stakeholders like Transport Department, insurance companies and police force of neighboring states involving systemic changes to break the vicious cycle of demand and supply of stolen Motor Vehicles.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor also desired for increased focus on investigation, prosecution and conviction so as to create deterrence in minds of criminals.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor instructed to explore provision of making installation of various safety devices such as Anti Vehicle Theft Equipment, a mandatory condition for registration of vehicles in Delhi.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed Delhi Police to create mass awareness campaigns among citizens for adopting preventive measures. Latest technological breakthroughs in this field should be popularized so that citizens can exercise informed choices to stay safe.
