Lt. Governor, Delhi Sh. Anil Baijal holds 7th Meeting of Task Force on Women Safety.
Concerted efforts by all required to make city safer: LG
Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired the 7th meeting of the “Task Force on Women Safety Issues” and reviewed implementation of recommendations made by the expert group on women safety.
Meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Commissioner of Police, Secretary (Education), Chairman, NDMC, Secretary (Social Welfare), Secretary(Law), Commissioner (Transport), Commissioner, MCDs.
Delhi Police informed about various measures undertaken for Women Safety such as increasing frequency of patrolling by women police personnel in and around schools and colleges especially during change of shifts, awareness measures for publicizing Police Helpline Number(1091) through various means of communication, increased presence of women constables in public places, etc. Hon’ble LG directed Delhi Police to expedite investigation in cases related to crime against women.
Hon’ble LG also emphasized on the need of gender sensitisation campaigns,
Community policing, use of technology, increased representation of women in work force and improved street lighting by varios stakeholders to make the city safer for women.
Education department was also requested to take up various steps on the actionable points recommended by the expert group like regular safety audit, gender sensitization and awareness programmes.
Commissioner (Transport) briefed about the various steps taken by the Transport Department on the actionable points like creating a central data base of all drivers and staff of public transport, installation of CCTVs and GPS in consultation with Delhi Police and other stake holders, etc.
Hon’ble LG advised to install Immediate response/emergency buttons and introduce after dark ‘between stops’ in public transport to make them safer for women, as recommended by the expert group.
Finally, Hon’ble LG emphasized that all the stakeholders must work in a concerted manner so as to effectively improve upon women safety in Delhi.
