Sh. Anil Baijal, Lt. Governor, Delhi chaired a meeting to review progress of traffic decongestion measures on the pilot corridors namely Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More), Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover), Savitri Flyover (Chirag Delhi Crossing to Savitri Flyover), and Dhaula Kuan, (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point).

The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Minister (PWD), GNCTD, Sh. Satyendar Jain, Chief Secretary, Delhi, Pr. Commissioner (DDA), Principal Secretary (UD/DLB), GNCTD, Chairman, New Delhi Municipal Council, Commissioner (SDMC), Pr. Secretary (PWD), GNCTD, Divisional Commissioner, GNCTD, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) informed Lt. Governor about the present progress and status of the following pilot corridors :

Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More)

It was informed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor that Aurbindo Marg corridor is one of the most important corridors which connect New Delhi and South Delhi to Gurugram. Further, it was informed that to improve the traffic flow at Aurobindo Marg, certain measures like re-aligning of existing car parking facility and creating bus lane at INA have been approved and the construction work will start soon. It was also apprised that for increasing awareness of pedestrians, display boards at conspicuous places have been installed for using the subway near AIIMS.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor was also apprised that removal/relocation of pharmacies from Aurobindo Marg to underpass/subway of AIIMS has been approved and shifting will commence after completion of minor works by NDMC. Also, the provision of an FOB at Yusuf Sarai has been approved.

Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover)

 

It was informed to Lt. Governor that the Mathura Road corridor witnesses heavy pedestrian as well as vehicular movement at all times as many industrial areas and cluster colonies are situated on both sides of Mathura road.

Lt. Governor was informed about the progress and redevelopment plan of Amir Khusro Park. About the refurbishment of subway at Dargah, it was informed that signages/boards have been installed by Traffic Police. Further, the concerned subway has been cleaned and whitewashed. Electricity too has been restored and the general public has started using the subway.

Savitri Flyover (Chirag Delhi Crossing to Savitri Flyover)

It was informed to Lt. Governor that this important stretch of Outer Ring Corridor connects South Delhi to Airport. It has heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic movement near Savitri cinema. Regarding removal of encroachment and repair of slip road, it was informed that the slip road has been carpeted by PWD and is operational.

Dhaula Kuan, (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point)

Hon’ble Lt. Governor was informed that this is one of the most important corridors which connects South Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, New Delhi, Terminal-1 & Terminal-3 Airport and Delhi-Gurgaon (NH-8). Major redevelopment by NHAI is planned to broaden NH8, provide grade separator for signal free cross-over to Station Road.

Further, it was informed that realignment of 7 Bus Route nos. 724, 588, 588A, RL-75, 894, 794 and RL-77 has been done to ease traffic. Now, these routes go straight to Brar Square via Ring Road and then take a left turn to reach Thimaya Marg crossing via Base Hospital.

At the outset, Lt. Governor appreciated the progress so far but stated that immediate implementation of the ongoing projects and works should be undertaken in a time bound manner to ensure their timely completion. Specific timelines should be fixed for each action point.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor further emphasized that these stretches ought to be freed from unauthorized parking for better circulation of traffic. He directed PWD and Traffic Police to ensure proper display boards displaying “NO PARKING ZONE”, wherever notified and strictly enforce the sameLt. Governor also stressed that commercial establishments should provide proper parking for their visitors else must face action as per law, as roads are meant for commuting and not for unauthorized parking.

 

The Hon’ble Minister too stressed on the need for strict enforcement of no-parking on these stretches, as per law and judicial pronouncements. Hon’ble LG directed the Traffic Police to undertake necessary action in this regard immediately.
