.LG VK Saxena Launches Driving Skill Training for Women Trainee Cab Drivers

• Women Cab Drivers will instill a sense of security among women passengers: LG

• Shri Saxena administered Prime Minister’s "Five Pledges" for 2047 to the people

The Lt Governor Shri VK Saxena today launched the training of 50 women cab drivers at Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Sarai Kale Khan. The move is aimed at increasing the ratio of women drivers in Delhi’s public transport sector and ensuring safety of women passengers simultaneously in the Capital. On this occasion, Shri Saxena also flagged off a fleet of 40 electric cabs with women drivers on the wheels.

Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Shri Gautam Gambhir, Chief Secretary, Shri Naresh Kumar and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

The LG also administered Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s five pledges (Panch Pran) for 2047 – making a developed India, removing any sign of servility, pride in our rich heritage, unity in upliftment of our nation & fulfilling our duties as citizens of this country.

Shri Saxena, on this occasion, said the driving skilling training of women drivers was in tune with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call for women empowerment, which also found mention in today’s Independence Day address. He said the meaning of independence would remain incomplete without the “economic freedom” of our women; i.e. their self-dependence. “This driving skill training program for women drivers would open up new employment avenues for women and make them self-reliant. I am hopeful that the public transport sector in Delhi will have 50 percent of women drivers in coming years,” Shri Saxena said.

Lauding the electric car fleet aggregator Blu Smart for roping in women drivers, the LG said while the electric cars would contribute to environment protection, these women cab drivers would ensure the safety of women passengers.

It may be noted that the women, under this scheme, can register directly with the transport department or they can be roped in by private cab aggregators. All women drivers are provided free of cost training by IDTR and the cost of the training will be borne by the Transport Department and the Aggregators (50-50%). The trained women drivers will be taken in the fleet of the aggregators who have sponsored them. Under this initiative, 1000 women will be given training and assured employment in the next one year.
