• LG launches first of its kind Joint Special Cleanliness Drive – All Civic Agencies to work in tandem in mission mode- appeals to people to come forward and participate proactively.
• Consider Safai Karamcharis the most important pillars in the Departmental Hierarchy, will address their concerns and grievances like a local guardian (L-G) at the earliest – Shri V.K. Saxena
In a decisive step forward emanating out of the Lt. Governor's initiatives and stress on cleanliness and sanitation ever since he took charge, an intensive joint special cleanliness drive was launched throughout the City today. The Lt. Governor Shri V.K. Saxena today kickstarted the program from Mukherjee Nagar in North Delhi at a function in the presence of area MP, Shri Manoj Tiwari, Chief Secretary and other top officials of the Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister and the Dy. Chief Minister who were supposed to attend the program, could not be present due to some reasons. The program is being carried out in all zones of MCD with active participation of people, local MLAs and area MPs.
To be carried out for a fortnight in mission-mode, where all concerned Civic Agencies will work in tandem for the first time, this one of its kind cleanliness drive is aimed at providing a decisive push to remove garbage, C&D waste, inert and plastic that has accumulated in the City on roads, central verges, footpaths, lanes, by-lanes, parks and neighbourhoods, over a period of time.
Reaching out to the sanitation workers, the Lt. Governor underlined that ‘though the Safai Karamcharis were placed lowest, he considered them to be the most important pillars in the departmental hierarchy. It were the Safai Karamcharis who keep a city clean, sanitized, healthy and liveable and the role played by them in making any city a favoured destination, was supreme to that of anybody else’. Appealing to them for their proactive participation in the regular upkeep of the city, Shri Saxena said that he was aware of their concerns and grievances and promised that he will address them at the earliest. He assured them that as their Local Guardian (LG), he would do everything possible to provide them with an enabling and empowering work atmosphere. Exhorting the Sanitation Workers to come forward in the task ahead, Shri Saxena said “स्वच्छता उस चन्दन के समान है, जिसे दूसरों के मस्तक पर लगाने से अपनी उँगलियाँ स्वयं महक उठती हैं”.
Speaking on the occasion the Lt. Governor stressed on people’s participation in the drive and underlined that while this special drive was aimed at providing much needed jump start to City’s effort in cleaning itself, he would ensure that it becomes a regular on-going exercise. Invoking Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba, Shri Saxena said that their insistence on an individual’s personal efforts towards cleanliness and sanitation lay at the foundation of a clean neighbourhood, city and the country. The LG expressed the hope that the residents of Delhi will come forward to act towards achieving the goal of a clean city in full cooperation with the civic agencies and contribute to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s passionate project of a Swachh Bharat .
Shri Saxena lamented that Delhi, the National Capital of India which was known for its garbage, pollution, overflowing sewer lines and a dying Yamuna, should soon reclaim its pride of place amongst the international capitals. For this the LG reiterated each and every citizen will have to come forward and claim the city as his/her own and help it develop into a place they could be proud residents of.
