The Lt Governor, Shri V.K. Saxena, who is also the Chairperson of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today chaired a meeting to review the COVID situation in the Capital along with Dy. Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia. Persistent cases of Dengue and other vector borne diseases being reported despite the season not being favorable to its spread, was also discussed.

Those present in the meeting included Spl. Officer, MCD, Chairman, MCD, Commissioner, MCD and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, GNCTD.

Expressing concern over the recent rising trend in the number of infections, the LG directed officials to remain vigilant and not let the guard down as far as hospital preparedness to tackle any upsurge was concerned. He emphasized upon the need for enforcement and also appealed to the people of the City to voluntarily adhere to Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

Underlining the need of enhanced testing coupled with focus on the strategy of Test, Track, Treat and Vaccinate to successfully fight the pandemic, the LG also instructed officials to ensure genome sequencing of the cases being reported so as to proactively address the prevalence of any new variant.  While appreciating the high percentages achieved in various categories of vaccination in Delhi, the LG also pointed towards the relatively low figures of precautionary doses that had been administered and advised officials to take necessary steps to enhance them through a public outreach program.

Reviewing the status of vector borne diseases, upon being informed that the Domestic Mosquito Breeding Checkers (DBCs) were manually recording the houses visited and inspection done, the LG directed for the system to be automated wherein the DBC concern could instantly upload a picture of the house and its residents visited along with the picture of evidences of breeding/mosquitogenic condition found, if any. Similarly, on being informed that more than 6,000 prosecution proceedings had been launched by MCD where the defendant would have to physically be present before a Magistrate, the LG issued instructions for a system of e-Courts for disposal of these cases to be put in place, so that people are not harassed and unnecessarily inconvenienced.  Systems to this effect should be put in place by June, 30th the LG instructed.

Terming the occurrence of dengue despite the summer season and its prevalence throughout the year even after the end of monsoons and early winter last year, as worrisome, the LG asked officials to consult experts and epidemiologists to ascertain if a new virus strain had evolved, so that it could be effectively addressed. He directed officials of the Municipal Bodies to substantially enhance their efforts at containing the breeding of disease causing mosquitoes as also to ensure cleanliness and sanitation so that enabling atmosphere for the breeding and spread of mosquito borne diseases is checked.
