I am pleased to know that the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers is organizing its 60thAnnual IETE Convention on the theme “Marching Towards Digital Economy” on 17th September 2017.
Digital economy, currently the driving force behind our country’s economic development, shall bring more transparency in financial transactions and lead to better tax compliance. Digital economy is the new productivity platform to cleanse the system and weed out corruption and black money. Its impact in terms of greater formalization of economy and mainstreaming shall be transformative.
The march towards digital economy is predicated on rapid technological innovations in hardware platforms, algorithms and user-friendly software applications. While the Indian eco-system has responded magnificently and the Government has implemented several initiatives to usher in cashless transactions, many challenges still need to be surmounted before we can term ourselves as a truly digital economy.
I congratulate IETE for organizing a Convention on such a relevant topic. I hope that the deliberations will highlight the issues and help in developing insights into the complex mechanism of creation, ownership and protection of digital economic eco-systems.
