•    Walking through sludge, mud and slippery slopes of garbage, LG goes on a surprise inspection of works at Ghazipur landfill site.

•    Takes stock of the on mounds processing of garbage by new Trommeling Machines brought in after his last visit on May, 29th.

•    Reiterates his Sankalp of completely doing away with the 03 mountains of garbage at Ghazipur, Bhalaswa and Okhla within 18 months.

The Lt. Governor, Shri V.K. Saxena today went on an unscheduled inspection visit at the Ghazipur landfill site. Braving the sludge, mud and slippery slopes of the garbage mound, that made it impossible for a vehicle to climb up, the LG walked up to the peaks to take stock of the works in progress. It may be recalled that donning the hat of the City’s ‘local guardian’ the LG had on May 29th, 2022, visited the infamous mountain of garbage and resolved to get the Capital rid of these mounds within a fixed time-frame of 18 Months. He had instructed the MCD to begin and expedite work for disposing the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), Construction & Demolition (C&D) and Inert Waste right away.

In this sudden detour, that included plying on his official BMW, to an Innova of an official, a Gypsy of the Delhi Police and finally a walk through the sludge on foot, the LG inspected the on mound working of 10 new Trommeling Machines which have been brought in after replacing the outdated machines at the site, after his visit and instructions in May. These machines are processing 10,000 MTs of garbage every day.

Shri Saxena expressed satisfaction at the works underway at all the three landfill sites, wherein 4.3 lakh MT of garbage had been removed during the month of June and the target for July had been set at 3.6 lakh MTs due to the rains. Reiterating his commitment (sankalp) to the deadline of 18 Months for getting the Capital of India rid of these unseemly garbage mounds, he expressed the hope that all 03 mountains of garbage at Ghazipur, Bhalaswa and Okhla will be totally done away with during the next 16 months.
